SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's full-fledged mobile phone research and development company, M dot Mobile Sdn Bhd (M.Mobile), aims to launch 14 exciting mobile phone models this year, encouraged by its success in the market with the launch of its sole model last year.
M.Mobile chairman and chief executive officer Norhamzah Nordin said the company had spent about RM40 million up to end of last year for the development of the models and planned to spend another RM40 million to RM50 million this year.
Norhamzah said the production of the 14 models would be done in stages, starting with two models that were unveiled today, the MB110 and MB310.
The lower mid-end phone MB110 caters to simple users and has a MP3 phone with MMS capability while the higher-end MB310 comes loaded with multimedia functions such as integrated MP3/MP4 players, 128 MB built-in memory and 2.0 mega pixel camera with flash.
Tagged at a retail price of RM299 and RM650 respectively, the latest models also has all the standard Islamic features.
Norhamzah however declined to provide the sales projection for the two models.
"We can't say much about sales but we definitely want to introduce the 14 models," he told reporters at the launch of the MB110 and MB310 models, here Tuesday.
He said the 14 models would be made available in Malaysia and few of the models would also be for selected overseas markets including Africa.
M.Mobile's first baby, M10, a basic handphone that was introduced in February last year, sold about 60,000 units with 10 percent of them sold overseas.
Norhamzah said M.Mobile has also partnered a leading communication company in Canada, Mobalex, to produce a seamless SIP mobile phone to incorporate VOIP technology into future models.
