Takavaran, Naval Commandos

Takavaran is a naval commando force with about 200 soldiers. Takavaran hopefuls are hand-selected and highly trained for a variety of missions including land missions away from water. In addition to traditional naval special operations missions such as hydroponic surveys and beach head demolitions, Takavaran commandos are tasked with small-unit raids that might involve sabotage and demolitions or assassinations as well as prisoner snatches and hostage rescue operations.

Much of the training regiment was created by members of the former Soviet Union Spetznas units and German KSK naval commandos (since disbanded). Training for the unit is a twelve-month process. First, the recruit must demonstrate the minimum physical requirements specified. After this the recruit is sent to a collection of schools, first eight weeks of physical training, then dive school, jump school, Weapons school, unarmed combat school, land warfare school, and finally, close-quarters combat school. After this the prospective operator joins a team and serves out a six-month probationary term before becoming a full-fledged commando.

By the time he becomes a full-fledged commando, the Takavaran soldier is an expert combat diver, checked out in both conventional SCUBA systems as well as closed-circuit breathing apparatus. They are qualified to jump with all of their equipment in both day and nighttime conditions, including landings in water.

Commandos from Takavaran are proficient with US, Russian, and Israeli weapons, but are outfitted with German-built firearms. Assault rifles such as the HK G3 (regular and short barreled), HK-91, and HK-53 have been used. In some instances AK-47's, AK-74's, and AK-103 assault rifles have been used. The MP-5 submachine gun is sometimes used for CQB missions. Handguns are mostly Belgian-manufactured .45 automatics, but in some cases Glocks and .357 revolvers have been used

Highsky, you copy that from another website. That photo is from wikipedia and the text from another site. Anyway, what is their status now? Are they part of the Iranian Army?
Does the Iranian Navy have its own Special Forces?

Looks mean nothing, for all i care they could only be wearing shoes, a tshirt and trousers and be very skilled.

e.g. a body builders body looks good and very muscular, but a heavy weight boxer would most likely knock them out with a single free bare-knuckle punch!

Hey honestly, Im not trying to step on your iranian pride or anything, I bet that iranian spec forces could be just as good as israeli, russian and so on.

But the point is, nearing a beach while trying not to get much attention (which is the job of the takavaran/seals and other infiltrator branch) with big yellow scuba gear is a bad bad idea... in night missions you just wanna avoid any bright colors, believe me..

Agree, left. Especially with the red stripes on the suits. However, they have had training with western & Soviet Special Forces before the revolution. They are professionals.

Yellow tanks and red strips! what's next glow in the dark head gear? and since when they got issued with Ak-47s instead of G-3s, Uzis and MP5s? A lot has changed since the glory years

No, it's a post-revolution one. You can see the portrayal of Khomeini -a cleric anyway- on the wall on top right corner of the photo. + In pre-revolution era, it was illegal to have beard during ceremonies, however now army forces -IRGC mostly- are allowed to raise beard -only as a religious symbol which btw makes many ppl underestimate their efficiency, lol- but during real conflicts everybody must shave; it is obligatory.
