Saw the movie a week ago in college. After watching it, I'm dissapointed with the healthcare system. What disturb me was that one of the students said "screw this country."

I liked the bit on Cuba. Good for them. It's not the most evil place on Earth!

I think that may change after Castro resigned. Bush said something about bringing democracy to Cuba.

It is the first movie I saw when I arrived in Canada, and believe me I see the us government even worse then before. I really felt bad for all those americans without helfcare. I really liked the sarcasm in the movie and the part where they showed castro as lucifer it was funny. I personnaly think that castro is a great guy and ciba a great country.

I don't agree with dictatorship but he is a great man...and a 'good' (non-evil) dictator! His people aren't oppressed - they're happy with what they've got. He's better than Batista I always say.

I don't think they are really 'happy' with what they got. Castro really screwed up their economy with his land reforms. There is a reason why so many hop on small boats for the coast of Florida.

Ahap.
I am a bit surprised to see this coming from a pro-Irish/pro-liberation person.
But well.. the left never ceases to amaze me.

I do not like the way Moore puts things up, simplicistic and naive.
But Sicko did raise some very good questions and underlined many matters. Not that my support were ever shaken, but it made me support our system more fervently. Especially now when it is being Americanized.

it is interesting that you brought that up. I have to say, without any doubt, that socialized medicine works for people much better than private medicine. I have excellent health insurance personally but most people do not, including myself for a long time. Most people have none or little health insurence. It is just too expensive. Even bad insurence costs about $1,000 a month.

Yes.. the Americans pay much more than us. Much more, and got worse services.
Here if one is dependent on one sector, then our system is not perfect but I rely on public service and on the services provided by my employer and that works well. If there is urgent need I will get to doctor within 24 hours (not counting emergency matters) and it does not cost too much. I pay more for my Internet access... although our health care is mostly paid thru taxes*. I am against Communists and much of the leftists but our health care and free education are things I won´t give up without a fight. I do not actually think that they are "leftist" at all: I think that each and every government should provide both of them to all citizens, like they provide us protection and basic infrastructure.
* which still means that the total cost is much less than the costs paid by the Americans. The health care related expenditure of USA is 16% while we pay 8,6 % while having significantly older population and smaller GDP [ ] (http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalHealthExpendData/25_NHE_Fact_Sheet.asp#TopOfPage)
But there are problems.. if I want to see a dentist, I have to wait for 3 months if I do not want to pay (the price is still subsided though), and non-urgent surgeries may have queues of 4..6 months. But if I am asked, it is not so bad still.. especially when taking into account the fact that the problems are related to inefficient administration and workforce shortage... the real problem is in the way how they compensate the medications, many elderly people cannot afford their medications as the subsidies cover the expenses only to certain point which ain´t that high... that is a real issue, and it hasn´t been like that always.
