I can see you are a hardcore enemy of Venezuela from your profile and reading your previous posts. Good to know that in advance.
Can you at least quote where you got the information regarding Venezuela seeking nuclear capabilities? I live in Venezuela and read both the opposition and the official newspapers and have not encountered any information regarding what you said. Neither have I encountered such information in international news media outlets. What Chavez DID SAY was that IRAN had the RIGHT to use nuclear energy for energetical purposes just like the USA has the right to open up several new nuclear power plants (stated by Dubyah himself--it's going to happen in 2006).
Just for your information and anyone who is concerned with the issue:
In fact, the only tiny reactor in Venezuela in the IVIC of Caracas is doubtfully even operational (note: it is about 40 years old and was meant for scientific studies in the acceleration of sub-atomic particles). Incidentally, it was the good ol' USA who helped us build that tiny reactor which doesn't have enough energy to even light 3 light bulbs.

Also, one quick thing for Ak-101. Those "bulky ass" (your words) FAL assault rifles have actually a far greater penetration power than the M16's, which make an almost toy-like sound when firing. I've tried both and tested their capabilities and compared them. The FAL, although infinitely older, is still better than the M16 in many ways. Nonetheless, like G-Capo said, we already have tons of newer Ak's so it's a win-win situation for Venezuela.

I do not like the m16, never have never will. I like russian weapons hence my name, I also love the m-14 and own the civilian version of it. I never doubted the power behind the FN FAL. I called it bulky for a reason and history has proved it. When Egypt invaded Israel they were equiped with Ak-47s, sks, hakims, rasheeds, and such. The Israelis had those "bulky ass" FN FALs, which sticks by what I said. When the Egyptians rushed the Israeli trenches and lines, they had more manuverability with their aks than the Israelis had with their "bulky ass" Fals. The power that the FAL has is not practical in todays world because it is not about trench warfare, its all about fast moving battles and you cant do that with a heavy and long gun like the FAL. I am glad that your army is being equipped with the AK-101 because it is a great weapon and has an excellent recoil system. Atleast your army is being equipped with them while Fidel still has the army issue AKMs and RPDs....
I am sure any Israeli on this forum will agree with what I said about the FAL in action during the war.

Hello all and saw the replies, good discussion on the FAL going. Penetration power vs. how light something is has been of course a key issue in wars lately. Mostly because of the newer bullet proof vests. I do agree that the Ak-100 series is light years better than the FAL (yet the FAL still trumps an M16 any day, even though the M16 is lighter). What are your thoughts on the level III + generation vests like the Interceptor? I read on Valery Shilin's site that Russia has developed the new 7N series armor piercing bullets.
About the nuclear energy, g-capo and ak-101, you are right about the nuclear energy. I did miss that. Here is a link as well:
http://newsfromrussia.com/world/2005/11/02/66831.html
Bush says nuclear reactor for peaceful aims in Venezuela might be OK (Which is probably why FOX News isn't on it on a daily basis)
We do have uranium in the jungle.. ironically the only ones that mined it for the last 40 years where US corporations that came here under the guise of "Evangelical Missionaries". Thank God they are all being deported now. Diversifying is probably one of the goals..the other one is: as the barrel of oil continues to rise the cost of nuclear energy will be less costly so it the cost benefit will be greater by internally consuming gas+nuclear energy and exporting more oil.

I'll tell you about a stupid war that almost did happen. Back in the early 90's, when we had a corrupt president supported by George Bush Elder called Carlos Andres Perez. During that time, Venezuela almost invaded Guyana over some territorial bullcrap because that country was undertaking social and commercial policies that the Bush regime disaproved of. Due to the fact that the Venezuelan military command was strongly against such action, it wasn't done, despite of Washington's pressure to take a chunk of that country.
Chavez has taken the rational approach to maintain peace with all of Venezuela's neighbors, including Guyana. We love peace but we're ready for any hostile foreign aggression.
Last but not least, like ak101 said, there is a light machine gun manufactured by Galil.

I have used both the Fn Fal and the Steyr
Fn Fal is bulky but it is definetely more powerful with its 7.62 mm ammo
Steyr only has 5.56mm
Ak-47 is good but i love the AK-74
Comfortable when firing and very easily stripped and cleaned
Have never fired Ak-101 but it would have to be a geat weapon as its an improvement of the Ak-74
Venezuela are smart getting license production for the Ak-101
They should now get some Su-30mkk of russia
And Tor M1 and Sa-300 sams as well

I'll see if I can find a picture for you. All it is basically a galil with a heavier and longer barrel, shortly larger magazine, and a bipod. Same caliber, just has a higher rate of fire and I believe it has a longer range than the ordinary galil.

Venezuela is in talks for such weapon systems such as Su-39 and Su-27.Venezuela is also producing military strength steel possibly to build frigates from help of Russia in Venezuela.
Possible T-90S tanks as well. Also Amur submarines and German U-214 and Scorpene submarines.
All talk know. But I suspect Venezuela will re-arm more in the middle of 2006.
