An Indian air force detachment of two Sukhoi Su-30MKI multirole fighters and a supporting Ilyushin Il-78 tanker were among the star attractions at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo.
At Fairford following their participation in the first ever bilateral exercise involving the Indian air force in the UK, the aircraft were part of a major detachment which was based at the Royal Air Force’s Waddington airbase in Lincolnshire for almost two weeks from 2 July. This included a further four Su-30s sent to the UK to participate in exercise ‘Indra Dhanush’, where the aircraft flew as part of a joint air package with RAF Panavia Tornado F3 and Eurofighter Typhoon interceptors.
All of the Indian fighters participated in the manouevres, which usually included two sorties per aircraft each day, says Sqn Ldr S V Munje, a pilot from the air force’s 30 Sqn at Pune air station. The Indian aircraft flew with support from their own tanker, but made use of the RAF’s Boeing E-3D Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft as part of a composite package, he says.
In addition to the two Su-30s on the ground at RIAT, a third example conducted a brief flying display at the show on 14 July before returning to Waddington. The entire Indian detachment – which totals around 200 personnel – will leave the UK on 17 July at the start of a four-day return journey which will include stops in Greece and Qatar, says Munje.
Rated by the Indian air force as having been a major success, the Indra Dhanush exercise looks set to be one of the highlights of what is also the 75th year since the service’s creation

su-30 is a damn awesome plane like i said before india is lucky to have it did you see that su-30 vid i posted before ? freakin insane !
IMO i think it's better than any planes america can give them i haven't even seen the likes of an f-22 pull the stuff sukhois can and with israeli avionics it's on another level.
Heck just the way it looks is badass If i ever came up against it i'd turn tail and run.
I would love to see it go against a eurofighter typhoon and see how it does :)

su-30 is a damn awesome plane like
i agree. SUMKI is an aweinspiriring plane and we have to thank "Roos" for that
i said before india is lucky to have it
not so fast my friend.
lucky???
it was not as if India's name was picked in the Grand Russian Lotto.
WE paid hard CASH for it.
If any other country wants the plane, let them go to Russia or to China and pay cash and get it. (you know which country i am talking bout)

in mid-90's, they test flew this one and MiG-29, both, and they tried to buy this bird but russia didn't agreed. indian diplomacy's work prevailed. thanks to their excellent relations with russia. the whole story is available in the book "The Story of Pakistan Airforce-A Battle Against Odds", Oxford University Press-2001.
but the threat is their acquisition of JF-17, the embargoed F-16's and new ones. india will be losing the parity once again.

he is right when predicting about MiG-35. its because by entering another type which is equal or inferior to MiG-35 the logistics, stores, engineering and maintenance, training etc overheads will increase. then the twin engine concept is also being followed in this type as per their requirement and then russia is a reliable source even in case of war there are no chances that there will be any embargo unlike western countries. cost is also not much and after all the historical ties between the two countries are even more stronger then any other time. MiG-35 is a powerful contender.

and let me add that JF-17 is no match for the modern IAF. they are likely to fall in large numbers is case of a conflict. in addition to that MiG-35 induction is also a plus because according to India-Iran defence agreements, signed in late 90's or earlier this decade, that the two will facilitate each other in case of a war against any one of them, its easy for MiG-35 and Su-30 to land and refill and re armed in iran because it is also operating MiG-29 type(quite similar to MiG-35, although not much) and is about to make agreement with russia for purchase of Su-30. in case of india-pakistan conflict, the pakistanis will be losing every front because of the defence cooperation and defence agreements between iran and india. on one hand indian army can use irani army bases for logistics, regrouping, planning and attacks and on top airforce will be able to use irani airbases for aerial attacks preparation and their implementation against pakistan.

Kashif please write the proper Queens language can't get you pal??
India has the SU-30 MKI developed from SU-30 and having 80% commonality of parts with the SU-35 while China has SU-30MKK developed from SU-27MK..
The Su-30MKI version is a development of the Su-27 series. Though a variant of Su-30, the Su-30 MKI is significantly more advanced than the basic Su-30 or the Chinese Su-30 MKK aircraft. Its avionics, aerodynamic features and components are similar to the Su-35. source:wikipedia further source: http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=88...
