I'm more of a fan of the canadian anthem.

And for anyone thats watched the red-green show on CBC, the 'politically correct version'

Though in all seriousness, i'll have to go through and listen to them all and then vote, good use of an hour:biggrin1:.

I voted for the Russian one, I dont know why but it sounds like the most patriotic to me. Mabye because I cant understand it so it sounds more captivating. When I listen to it it sounds to me like a song about people overcoming a great challenge, making sacrifices but eventually triumphing. I have no idea if thats what its actually about but thats what I feel :roflmao3:

However I also like the US one, Chinese, UK, and Austrailian ones.

I voted Germany but on second thought would've voted Russia too.

However, if we include fictional national anthems, I'd vote for the Colonial anthem from the "reimagined" Battlestar Galactica, which is the same as the main theme of the original series.

btw for all those who care here are the word to the Canadian anthem

en français
O Canada, terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux.
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix.
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

in english
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

They would recognise at as a nice thing to hear, but not in any way as a national anthem, because each country (or nearly each one) allready has one of it's own and does not need this clownish anthem for a organistation that has not the same rights as a real country (with inhabitants so diverse they will, luckily, never unite)... The ''European'' does not excist -- it's a fairytale... :D

When you know people died for your country,
When you know people died for your freedom,

There is no greater anthem than your own.

Thats why I'm so proud to be Irish. We fought for independence from Britain and for our freedom from oppression. Every time I hear the anthem, I remember those who died for my country.
Amhrán na bhFiann

Seo dhibh a cháirde duan Óglaigh,

'S an spéir go min réaltogach
Is fonnmhar faobhrach sinn chun gleo
'S go tiúnmhar glé roimh thíocht do'n ló
Fé chiúnas chaomh na hoiche ar seol:

Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Fé mhóid bheith saor.
Sean tír ár sinsir feasta
Ní fhagfar fé'n tiorán ná fé'n tráil
Anocht a théam sa bhearna bhaoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saoil
Le guna screach fé lámhach na bpiléar
Seo libh canaídh Amhrán na bhFiann.

Cois bánta réidhe, ar árdaibh sléibhe,
Ba bhuachach ár sinsir romhainn,
Ag lámhach go tréan fé'n sár-bhrat séin
Tá thuas sa ghaoith go seolta
Ba dhúchas riamh d'ár gcine cháidh
Gan iompáil siar ó imirt áir,
'S ag siúl mar iad i gcoinne námhad

A Soldier's Song

We'll sing a song, a soldier's song,
With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heavens o'er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning's light,
Here in the silence of the night,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

Chorus
Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal,
We'll chant a soldier's song

In valley green, on towering crag,
Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered 'neath the same old flag
That's proudly floating o'er us.
We're children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
We'll chant a soldier's song

Chorus

Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale!
The long watched day is breaking;
The serried ranks of Inisfail
Shall set the Tyrant quaking.
Our camp fires now are burning low;
See in the east a silv'ry glow,
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe,
So chant a soldier's song.

Chorus

Bloody Sunday 1920 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1920))

British forces opened fire on the crowd at a Gaelic football match in Croke Park in north Dublin, causing the deaths of 15 civilians (including a player, Michael Hogan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hogan_%28sportsman%29)). That same evening there were scattered shootings in the city streets, and three Irish prisoners in Dublin Castle were killed by their British captors under suspicious circumstances.

In 2007, Croke Park, for the first time ever, was used in a non-GAA (Irish Sports) match. Ireland was against England in the second rugby match there. There were fears the English National Anthem would be booed. But it wasn't. It has really shown how Ireland has progressed. It was an emotional day for Ireland.

In the video the commentator wonders what all the 'fuss was about'. The fuss was if booing would take place during the English National Anthem at the place where 15 civilians were brutally murdered by British forces years before. It didn't. And you can see Irish players crying in the video during the Irish National Anthem. In pride.
