TEHRAN, Oct. 11 (MNA) – The final phase of a plan to build low electricity discharge measuring device for high voltage cables is underway at Iran University of Science and Technology, ISNA (Iranian Students News Agency) reported on Tuesday.
The device employs noise reduction method (sensitive to wavelet fluctuations) to detect the minimal drops in voltage. It then automatically measures the range of any minimal electricity discharge to prevent heavier discharges causing electricity cut-off to the subscribers or short-circuiting in the loop. The gradual discharge takes place in high voltage cables when their conductivity is lessened by the damages or cracks appearing on their insulated polymer cover; incorrect transportation and mishandling during installation, pollutions and other external factors are the main causes of gradual electricity discharge.
The project is ordered by the Industrial Researches, Training and Information Department of the Ministry of Mines and Industries and it is the first time such a device is being made in Iran. It is noteworthy that the low discharge measuring unit has come to its final stage by the efforts of the university researchers and chiefly that of Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Shahrtash, the project designer.
