TEHRAN, Oct. 11 (MNA) – Iran and India cooperate on establishing a urea production plant in Iran, which is slated to come on stream by 2006.

The contract to build the production plant was recently signed between Iran and India. According to the contract, the Indian side has undertaken making use of the Canadian technical know–how to deliver the plant to Iran within the next 21 months.

India won the contract for the construction of the plant in a competitive international bid launched by Iran. The contract includes all the engineering operation, supply of equipments, construction and putting into operation of the plant, said managing director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.

When asked if India’s vote against the Islamic Republic in the meeting of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors has had any impact on the bilateral cooperation between the two countries he said, the Foreign Ministry should be asked the question, the contract to set up the plant is a project that is very useful for the farmers.

The United Nations nuclear watchdog IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors recently passed a resolution paving the way to refer the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions for its nuclear activities.
