my question to the forum is as follows :

Do you think that war will break out between the two countries? who do you think will start it? who would win? can you describe/play out the scenario you envisaage? how long do you think it will last? what countries would support which of the proagonists? whats the likelyhood of the war raging out of control into a global one? what systems do you think will be used and will succeed by both parties? what systems will prove to be a failure? (systems = weapons) what countries will get directly involved? and what countries will be indirectly involved? and what effect would this war have on the global economy and the price of oil?

I look forward to seeing some very interesting posts...

This war if happened would be a regional war most likely, that include lebanon, syria and iranian help if iran is not attacked at the same time by the U.S.
Israel will try to advance to Damascus since its only few kilometers away from the borders. Israel definitely will try to advance using its advanced tanks and superior airpower in large numbers.
Syria would depend on its air defenses to limit this advantage, it is very crucial that they prove effective, otherwise the syrian fixed positions and older tanks would face a serious troubles..Smaller commandoes forces must be added to the syrian defenses equipped with large numbers of anti tanks missiles as being reported already been done by the syrians.
They syrian missiles would play a major role in this war, must be well protected and on the move constantly as was done in lebanon to prolong the war and never allow israel the chance to take control of the battle.
I believe some syrian troops would move into lebanon in the mountain side and the bekaa valley in case the collaborators in lebanon opened an internal battle to preoccupy hezbollah while facing israel and protect the syrian borders on the lebanese side from israel advance inside lebanon, in case was needed.
The syrian air defenses has to be solid and effective to give the syrian troops any chance of traditional fighting ability to counter any israeli advance in battle tanks and open grounds.
Since the syrian tanks are older, they are placed in bunkers and fortified positions, again air defenses play a major role protecting while they engage in traditional fighting, otherwise it would be a massive losses to them.
Small units must be placed around them for protection to never allow the israeli to relax and fortify any ground they might capture.
There would be no shortage of weapons used, the inventories on both sides would be wide open and nothing spared in this war, a war that might close completely the New Middle east theory.
It is very hard to predict a winner, but still i guess the israel would not fare better in this war, not if the syrian put all efforts to win, and stood their grounds firmly...
