very colourful and huge support and very noisy, but at times quite hostile too.

I generally dont support england, but against the aussies I turn into an in-ger-land supporter, as if by magic!!!!:)

Shoaib Akhtar is one of the best bowlers in the world
Still im not surprised
Pakistani Cricket team has been embroiled in so many scandals
I remember an interview with Imram Khan and he told how he learned the Pakistani team was going to throw a match so he took all the teams money and bet it on Pakistan to win so they wouldnt throw the match :roflmao3:
anyway here's another scandal

http://www.smh.com.au/news/cricket/shoaib-positive-in-drug-test/2006/10/16/1160850857793.html

Pakistan today recalled fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif from the Champions Trophy after they tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone.

In the latest controversy to engulf Pakistan, the pair face bans of up to two years after two internal Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tests confirmed the results, PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf told reporters here.

"Shoaib Akthar and Mohammad Asif have tested positive as per preliminary tests for nandrolone which is a banned anabolic steroid,'' said Ashraf, who was appointed earlier this month.

"The PCB had asked for reconfirmation of the test from the Malaysian laboratory (where the tests were carried out) and we have been verbally informed 15 minutes ago that the reconfirmation is also positive.''

The board had suspended the two players with immediate effect and withdrawn them from the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy 2006, Ashraf added.

"The players will return home on the first available flight,'' he said.

The PCB says it conducted the internal tests on 25 players before the Champions Trophy in India.

Pakistan has no current system for doping offences but will set up a tribunal to decide how to punish Akthar and Asif if their test results are confirmed, Ashraf said.

"The International Cricket Council has a ban of two years for the first offence but we'll go step by step, form a committee which will look into the evidence,'' Altaf told reporters.

"We don't want to end the careers of Shoaib and Asif. We will do a complete investigation and then decide the matter.''

Pakistan deserved credit for immediately revealing the positive test results on two of its key players, the cricket chief said.

"We did not cover it up... We don't care about losing or winning. We need to educate the players because this is a very serious offence.''

Altaf however denied earlier reports that fellow paceman Rana Naved-ul-Hasan's test had raised questions.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Akhtar's personal doctor said today the Pakistan fast bowler was innocent of doping and likely tested positive because of medicine he took to recover from injury.

``Akhtar is definitely innocent and I can vouch for him,'' Tauseef Razzaq, a reputed physiotherapist and sports medicine specialist, told AFP.

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer appeared stunned when he faced a televised press conference in Jaipur, India, where Pakistan face Sri Lanka in their opening Champions Trophy match tomorrow.

"What was my initial reaction? Disappointment,'' the Englishman said.

"We asked the (PCB) medical panel to give the players drug tests which they did at the end of September, so I take responsibility for that certainly.

"I have never come across anything like this in my life.... The timing is not great, but if it's going to happen it happens.''

Captain Younis Khan added: ``Sometimes people take something and it comes out in the test.''

Pakistan is lining up fast bowlers Mohammad Sami and Shahid Nazir and all-rounder Yasir Arafat to fly out to India as soon as possible, a board official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Recently-appointed PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf was due to give an official announcement at a press conference later today following an urgent board meeting.

The tests rob Pakistan of two key elements of its strike force and follow two months of controversy swirling around the squad.

The chaos started in the fourth Test against England at the Oval in August, when captain Inzamam-ul Haq refused to take his team back on the field after it was accused of ball-tampering.

Inzamam was cleared of that charge but was still handed a four-match ban for bringing the game into disrepute.

His replacement Younis earlier this month refused to lead the side for the Champions Trophy, saying he did not want to be a ``dummy'' captain.

Then-PCB chief Shaharyar Khan quit the next day because of his decision. Khan's replacement Ashraf convinced Younis to be skipper.

Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif told AFP said the positive tests were a major setback for Pakistan but praised the cricket board for taking prompt action.

"Never before has any Pakistani player tested positive and it's most serious,'' Latif said. ``It's a setback for Pakistan and a most serious crisis, but it's a bold decision by the PCB.''

I personally feel that politics was involved within the PCB. Normally they will defend their player, but this time they themselves were first to declare that Shoaib and Asif had allegedly taken drugs and were banned.

Pakistan team has enuf of fast bowlers to compensate, but somebody needs to get to the bottom of this.

i think 12 months for a fast high speed bowler like shoaib is enough to finished his career, i mean 12 months even for a batsman is alot and shoaib is fastest bowler, i hope something is sorted out because it would be a shame to see him out for good

it reminds me of mohammed ali 1967, he came back in 1971 but was never the same again, sportsman life is very short and can be made even shorter if they take a break

this is true but theres a big difference between slow spin bowler which require more technique and a worlds fastest bowler who requires stamina, timing, accuracy, and rhyrm 12 months can finish him its a very long time to be out of profesional test cricket

I agree with Javid. There seems to be an inbuilt infighting/politics in the southasian teams. It is never good for the country. Take my country for example. We have seen Azhar, Ganguly all dropped due to various reasons.
I am not so sure we see it in Aus , SA and so on for example.

england went into this series as the holders.

the third test they could have played better and forced the draw.

they can blame only themselves.

england are very funny when it comes to sport in general.

If you lived here you would realize what Im talking about.

they need only win a game of football or cricket or tennis and country goes crazy, people start talking of winning trophies etc.

then business as usual occurs and their @sses get deflated.

its humurous but makes you laugh when you have only bad weather every day :)

Pakistan Cricket Team's suffering days are over. After their failure in the World Cup they lost the Captain and the Coach. No body knew what to do? Pakistani Cricket was in perils.

We are quite in habit of taking foreign aids in every field so why not in the case of the cricket captain too? The team needed new blood. He is good at blood (or at least at shedding it).

He treats war like cricket so we hope he will take cricket as a war. He himself is old but uses youth as his weapon (remember the young American/British soldiers he used in Iraq and Afghanistan).

He doesn't need anybody to tell him anything.. This man knows every thing. So here are some shots of the new skipper... Enjoy!

Shoaib ordered to attend hearing

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44146000/jpg/_44146262_shoaib203.jpg Akhtar has pleaded with the PCB to show leniency

Shoaib Akhtar must attend a Pakistan disciplinary hearing on 6 October for striking team-mate Mohammad Asif.
The fast bowler hit Asif with a bat on the thigh, although he insists the blow was unintentional and he was provoked.
The Pakistan board has given a three-member committee two weeks to complete its hearing into the brawl.
Board member Shafqat Naghmi said: "We have issued a notice to Shoaib and asked him to appear before the committee on 6 October."
Akhtar escaped a fine of $5,000 last month for leaving a training camp in Karachi without informing the team management.
He appealed and the fine was suspended after it was accepted that he had told captain Shoaib Malik that he intended to leave.
Last year the fast bowler and Asif tested positive for a banned substance in out-of-competition tests conducted by the board and were sent home from the Champions Trophy in India.
They were at first banned and then cleared by a drugs inquiry tribunal and appeals panel of the board.
Akhtar has played just one Test and four one-dayers in the last 15-months because of fitness and disciplinary problems.

I saw him last year in Edgbaston at the ODI vs England.
He spent ages doing his hair before he came out of the dressing room to board the bus. The PAK fans in england are really mental they started saying stuff to him in Punjabi which I wont repeat here!

Eventually one guy(PAK FAN) pushed him, and he(Shoaib) was ready to Brawl!

p.s Kasaeed have you seen the clip of Shoaib singing kishore songs?

Inzamam to retire after SA Test

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44068000/jpg/_44068843_inzamam203.jpg Inzamam could join the rebel Indian League being set up

Pakistan legend Inzamam-ul-Haq will retire from international cricket after the second Test against South Africa in Lahore starting on 8 October.

Inzamam, 37, a veteran of 119 Tests, gave up the captaincy and quit one-day internationals after Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup this year.
He has been included in a 16-man squad also featuring Mohammad Yousuf, having opted out of the opening Test.
"I want to give way to youngsters and allow them centre stage," he said.

"I don't want to stop any youngster's progress.
"I have taken this decision after much thought and I realise that my presence in the dressing room could be a pressure on the younger players.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif606: DEBATE
Is Inzamam right to retire? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/sol/newsid_7020000/newsid_7029700?redirect=7029751.stm&news=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1&nbram=1)

"So I have decided this is the best time for me to bid farewell to a game I have loved so much.
"It is a tough decision but it is the best for me and my country."

Inzamam needs another 20 runs to overtake Javed Miandad's 8,832 runs become Pakistan's record runscorer in Tests.
He already hold his country's record for runs in the one-day game with 11,739 in 378 matches.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44159000/jpg/_44159121_inzamam203.jpg Inzamam made his Test debut in 1992

But Inzamam could not stop his side suffering an early exit from the World Cup.

"It was one of the biggest disappointments of my long career the way we performed because we had a good team," he said.

"But there have been other disappointments as well and that is part of the game."
He said winning the 1992 World Cup final against England was the best moment of his career plus the hundred he scored against Bangladesh in 2003 in his hometown Multan to help Pakistan win the match.

"It was my comeback match after disappointing form in the 2003 World Cup and it was an important innings for me," he added.
The prolific Yousuf, who scored nine Test centuries in 2006, is back in the frame after a change of heart over a switch to the breakaway Indian Cricket League.

Shoaib banned after hitting Asif

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44170000/jpg/_44170237_shoaib270.jpg Shoaib has had injury and discipline problems in the past 15 months

Shoaib Akhtar has been banned for 13 games by the Pakistan Cricket Board over an incident in which he struck team-mate Mohammad Asif with a bat.
The seamer was sent home from the World Twenty20 in South Africa and has also been fined £28,000 after an inquiry.
The ban has been backdated to the South Africa tournament so he will only sit out four more international games.
However, he has been warned that any more misdemeanours will mean the end of his career at the highest level.
"If he is found guilty of any act of indiscipline, he faces a life ban," said PCB disciplinary committee chairman Shafqat Naghmi.
Naghmi said the 32-year-old had been found guilty of three charges relating to the Asif incident: hitting a team-mate, accusing another player, Shahid Afridi, of involvement, and holding a news conference on his return from South Africa.
The committe also found against him on two other charges of missing a training camp in August in order to play a charity match in England and publicly criticising the PCB.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif
I have been going through a nightmare for the last four weeks

Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib previously insisted he had accidentally struck Asif, who he claimed had intervened in a row with Afridi.
Now the "Rawalpindi Express" says he accepts his punishment and is eager to play again for his country at the first available opportunity, which Naghmi said would be the tour of India in November.
"I have suffered enough, it was all in the heat of the moment and I'll make sure to be extra careful in the future," Shoaib said.
"I have already apologised to Asif, to the whole nation and the PCB, now I just want to move on and concentrate on playing cricket for Pakistan.
"I have been going through a nightmare for the last four weeks and whatever happened I just don't want to even recall it."
Last year Shoaib and Asif tested positive for a banned substance ahead of the Champions Trophy and were sent home from the tournament in India. They were subsequently cleared but Shoaib has played just one Test and four one-dayers in the last 15 months because of fitness and disciplinary problems. The selectors must now choose whether to save Shoaib for the India tour, to begin from 1 November, or to play him in the final home one-day international against South Africa.

Pakistan bowlers secure easy win

THIRD ONE-DAY INTERNATIONAL, Faisalabad:
Pakistan 202-4 (48.1 overs) beat South Africa 197 (49.2 overs) by six wickets Scorecard (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2007/10/14294/html/scorecard.stm)

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44193000/jpg/_44193520_afridi_anjum.jpg Afridi and Anjum played their part in a fine Pakistan display in the field

Pakistan's batsmen produced the first successful run-chase of the series to earn a 2-1 lead in the third of five one-day matches against South Africa.
But it was the Pakistan bowlers who did the damage, bowling out the tourists for just 197 on a slow, turning pitch.
Shahid Afridi and Rao Iftikhar Anjum each took three wickets in Faisalabad before Mohammad Yousuf hit 58 not out to secure victory with 11 balls left.
Pakistan won by six wickets and will be high on confidence in Multan on Friday.
For South Africa, who had hit 294-5 in the first match for a 45-run victory, it was a second dispiriting batting performance in the space of three days.
Proteas skipper Graeme Smith won the toss and made a confident start with Herschelle Gibbs, who became the second South African after Jacques Kallis to pass 7,000 ODI runs, as they put on 43 in 10 overs.
But they struggled when Smith (48) was run out and a succession of batsmen fell to aggressive shots.
Apart from Justin Kemp (42) there was little else and Pakistan also put in a much improved performance in the field after dropping a glut of catches in the previous game in Lahore.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif
We need to play really well to comeback into the series now

Graeme Smith

Afridi, who also took a stunning diving catch at mid-wicket to dismiss the dangerous AB de Villiers for 17, provided some fireworks for the 16,000 crowd with two sixes and four fours in his 18-ball 32.
His partnership with Yasir Hameed was the fifth different combination at the top in as many matches for Pakistan, and the duo put on 42 in seven overs.
Pakistan stuttered a little to be 68-3 in the 17th, but Yousuf played a patient innings, Shoaib Malik added an important 42, and Misbah-ul-Haq (29 not out) supplied the winning hit with a massive six over long-on off Albie Morkel.
"We got a decent start from Afridi and after that Yousuf showed a lot of maturity and carried us home," Malik said afterwards.
Smith was left to ponder another poor batting display, saying: "We couldn't put up partnerships in the middle overs and had we scored 20-30 more runs - which we are capable of doing - it could have been interesting.
"We made things difficult for ourselves by losing too many wickets in the last 10 overs. They bowled well up front and then both their spinners also did well. "We need to play really well to comeback into the series now."

Pakistan switch game from Karachi

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44195000/jpg/_44195864_karachi203.jpg Security has been a major factor on recent tours of Pakistan

Pakistan's fifth one-day international against South Africa on Monday has been moved from Karachi to Lahore because of security concerns.

The South Africans did not want to play in Karachi after last week's bombing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's convoy in which 139 people were killed.
"We deeply regret this decision, especially for the people of Karachi.
"But members of our contingent are not comfortable travelling there," said team manager Logan Naidoo.
"If possible, we will play in Karachi when we tour Pakistan next time."
Bomb attacks in the city have disrupted previous series, with New Zealand flying home in 2002 after an explosion close to their hotel, which killed 14 people.
South Africa refused to play there the following year and in 2005, England declined to play a five-day Test in the city, although they did take part in a one-day fixture.
Karachi is one of Pakistan's two main cricket centres and their board's chief operating officer, Shafqat Naghmi, had warned: "We don't want touring teams to avoid playing here."
But the hosts were unable to persuade a security expert sent to the city by South Africa that it was safe for the team to fulfill the fixture. "He felt that playing in Karachi was not feasible at this moment," said Naghmi. Prior to the match in Lahore, the two sides will meet in the fourth game of the series in Multan on Friday, with Pakistan leading 2-1.

S Africa stun Pakistan in decider

FIFTH ONE-DAY INTERNATIONAL, Lahore:
South Africa 233-9 (50 overs) bt Pakistan 219 (46.3 overs) by 14 runs
Scorecard (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2007/10/14296/html/scorecard.stm)

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44204000/jpg/_44204842_kallis203.jpg Kallis was the mainstay for South Africa on a tricky wicket

Pakistan collapsed dramatically to hand South Africa a 14-run victory and a 3-2 triumph in their one-day series.
South Africa made 233-9, thanks largely to Jacques Kallis' patient 86, with Shoaib Akhtar claiming 4-43 in his first game following a 13-match ban.
With Younus Khan (58) and Mohammad Yousuf (53) going well in a stand of 106 Pakistan were set for an easy win.
But Makhaya Ntini and Albie Morkel took four wickets each as they lost 6-20 to be bowled out with 21 balls remaining.
Earlier, the Proteas made a poor start after Graeme Smith won the toss, the skipper seeing his off-stump clipped by the first delivery he faced from Shoaib.
It would have been 13-2 had wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal not dropped a regulation chance off the speedster when Kallis was on two.
The star all-rounder, who had endured a miserable time previously in the series, bounced back to hit four fours and a straight six off Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

He put on 80 with Herschelle Gibbs, who hit 10 boundaries in his fine 54, and 75 with JP Duminy (44) but they and Shaun Pollock fell to Anjum (3-45) before Shoaib returned to strike three more times.
After he removed Mark Boucher, Shoaib Mallik took a brilliant running catch to account for Kallis, while Morkel was bowled as South Africa lost six wickets for 56 runs in the last 10 overs.
After the early departures of Imran Nazir and Akmal, Younus and Yousuf steadied the home side with a partnership spanning 134 balls.
But Younis was caught at deep mid-wicket by Morkel off Pollock and part-time spinner Duminy saw Yousuf slash a wide ball behind three overs later to turn the game on its head.
Captain Malik was clean bowled by Morkel for 23, while the rest were undone by swinging deliveries and some spectacular catching in the outfield to leave most of the 28,000-strong crowd disappointed.

South Africa captain Graeme Smith: "When I walked out for fielding, I knew we could defend 233 because the wicket was slow and every time you tried to push the scoring you lost a wicket.
"It is fantastic to win both the Tests and one-dayers and this was an incredible win. We took huge catches and the ball swung in the end and helped us to take those last wickets." Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik: "We controlled 90% of the match, but we simply could not finish it and lost too many wickets. "It all boiled down to poor batting. A win would have been good for the Indian tour. Had we played all our overs we could have won it."

The scorecard says it all, PAK as usual got complacent after they thought they were cruising to a win. Seen it too many times by the 'cornered Tigers!'

And another PAK loss, as if conditions at home are not bad enough currently, they get beaten by arch rivals.

India 242-5 (47 ovs) bt Pakistan 239-7 (50 ovs) by 5 wkts

By Jamie Lillywhite

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44218000/jpg/_44218078_irfan203.jpg India captured wickets at regular intervals to stifle Pakistan

Mahendra Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh hit half-centuries to inspire India to a five-wicket win over Pakistan in their opening one-day match in Guwahati.
They put on 105, the aggressive Dhoni hitting eight fours in his 63, while Yuvraj fired six fours and a six in 58.
Both fell near the end but India got to their 240 target with 18 balls left.
Salman Butt gave Pakistan a good start with 50 from 57 balls and Mohammad Yousuf, dropped on nine, hit eight fours in a battling unbeaten 83.
The victory gave the hosts a vital early edge in the five-match series, which continues in Mohali on Thursday.
Pakistan's total of 239-7 having opted to bat first never looked sufficient, despite a slow pitch that made shot-making difficult.
After Sachin Tendulkar was lbw to a Shoaib Akhtar slower ball in the third over, it appeared that it would not be so straightforward.
Gambhir (44) twice edged Shoaib - noticeably overweight in his second match back after injury problems and a 13-game ban - between keeper and slip to the boundary early in his innings.
But he and fellow left-hander Sourav Ganguly (39) slowly came to terms with the surface with a third-wicket stand of 82 spanning 14 overs.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif606: DEBATE
How do you think the series will go? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A28714656)

They were progressing serenely until Ganguly beaten by a throw from Butt at backward square-leg.
Four overs later Gambhir missed a straight one from Shahid Afridi that bowled him around his legs with 127 still needed.
But man-of-the-match Dhoni signalled his intentions by flashing at his first ball, which fizzed off the outside edge to the boundary, and the batting side were soon firmly in command again.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44218000/jpg/_44218072_buttout203.jpg Butt was needlessly run out having completed a fine fifty

Yuvraj, who survived a confident lbw appeal from spinner Abdur Rehman on 35, wafted the next ball effortlessly over mid-wicket for six to keep his team well ahead of the rate.
He was first of the pair to 50, from 66 balls, Dhoni following suit in the next over, and the searing boundaries continued as the 100 stand came up in 129 balls.
With 22 needed from 42 balls, Yuvraj top-edged a sweep to fine-leg and the requirement was 15 from 35 when Dhoni was smartly caught behind off the persistent Shoaib.
There were a couple more moments of anxiety before Robin Uthappa thumped Shoaib down the ground for four and advanced down the pitch to slice the winning runs in style with four through third man.
When Shoaib Malik elected to have first use of the pitch, Butt played some fluent strokes with the field up for the powerplay overs.
Kamran Akmal was not able to score as freely and succumbed playing an ungainly stroke across the line.
However replays suggested that English umpire Ian Gould - resplendent in old school colonial-style panama hat - was incorrect as the ball pitched outside leg-stump.
Pakistan were looking good but an unnecessary run out just after the drinks break forced them to rebuild.
Having reached 50 from 56 balls, Butt miscued to mid-off but set off for a perfectly realistic single, only to find Younus Khan rooted to the non-striker's end.
With off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and slow left-armer Murali Kartik operating in tandem the scoring slowed, 16 overs passing by without a boundary.
Yousuf was reprieved when he got a leading edge playing against the spin of Kartik but Ganguly, running back towards mid-off, could not cling on to the chance.
Younus also felt the urgency to accelerate the scoring but succumbed, lofting to long-off for 25.
It took until 35th over for the first six of the innings, a brutal heave over long-on from Afridi on his way to a 32-ball 31, but when spin returned problems mounted for Pakistan.
Having butchered another boundary, Afridi was hopelessly deceived in the flight by Tendulkar and was almost nearer the bowler's end than the crease as Dhoni took off the bails.
Worse was to follow as Malik, wearing eye-catchingly luminous green pads, fell to an eye-catchingly bad shot, hoiking a full toss from Tendulkar straight to the fielder on the mid-wicket boundary. Yousuf grinded out a 68-ball half-century, the 200 coming up in the 46th over, but the lack of significant support from his middle-order colleagues proved decisive.

26th over - Ind 180-2
New batsman is Virender Sehwag - he's nearly run out first ball when he thinks about a risky single, but no-one backs up the throw to the stumps and he gets off the mark with an overthrow. Gambhir is tucked up by the last ball and there's no run.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42669000/gif/_42669961_out_44x44.gif
25.4 overs - WICKET - Tendulkar c Akmal b Gul 99 - Ind 179-2
Captain Malik removes himself from the attack and brings back Umar Gul. Tendulkar scampers two to third man which takes him to 99, while Indian tennis star Sania Mirza looks on. Gul's radar is way off for the next ball as a bouncer flies over Tendulkar's head for five wides. The atmosphere is electric - can he make it to 100? He keeps us waiting by playing and missing! And then he nudges at one which Akmal takes with a flying leap behind the stumps - and the "Little Master" is out for 99 for the third time this year! Unbelievable scenes!
25th over - Ind 172-1
More singles off Afridi as we approach the halfway point of the innings. Sachin has 97, Gambhir now has 54.
"Currently writing a history essay on America's path to the Second World War... 2,500 words, due in tomorrow morning, and I've been up till five watching Australia v Sri Lanka! 24th over - Ind 165-1
Tendulkar, still helmeted unlike his partner, powerfully drives to long-on for a single. Gambhir then brings up his own half-century, off 58 balls, by carving his seventh four. Malik is then rather harshly penalised for a no-ball when the replay shows his foot appeared to be grounded behind the line. Umpire Shastri signals a free hit, and Tendulkar carefully paddles a good-length ball for four to fine leg. He's 93 not out.
"Why do people say Sachin should retire now? Just because India won that 20/20 circus? Do you think the genius feels insulted? Do you think Sachin would find a place today in the English or Aussie eleven? "
Himanshu in Paris in the TMS inbox [Would he get in the England team? In a word - yes. MM]
23rd over - Ind 153-1
Tendulkar square-drives for two, then takes a step back and punches one high over long-off for six to bring up the 150. Malik shuffles his field but it's to no avail as Tendulkar sweeps hard to short fine leg, where the ball painfully hits Mohammad Yousuf on the knee and they take two. Another single rounds off the over.
22nd over - Ind 142-1
Another boundary for Gambhir as a loose one from Malik is expertly cut for four. Malik adds to the total by tossing up a wide. Gambhir rounds off the over by taking two through the covers.
"The last time you were on a India - Pakistan match, MM, it was the World Cup clinching (and buttock-clenching) T20 final! Hoping for more of the same. (Same result too , obviously)"
Praveen Kumar in the TMS inbox
[And the last Ind-Pkn match I did before that was the tied T20 match when India won the bowl-out - genuinely one of the most exciting games of cricket I've ever seen - MM]
21st over - Ind 135-1
Another change of bowling as Shahid Afridi enters the fray with his fast leg-breaks. His first delivery is quite quick but a little wide, and Tendulkar carves him away through the covers for four. Keeper Kamran Akmal tries to gee the fielders up, but the singles continue to flow. With spin on from both ends, Gambhir has forsaken his helmet and donned a light blue cap. Another belter from Tendulkar brings another four through the covers.
"It's great to read the buffoonery of both commentators and contributors to brighten up the working day. Happy Diwali for tomorrow to everyone in cricket email/text-land and Happy New Year on Saturday! Come on India!"
Kash, London, in the TMS inbox
20th over - Ind 125-1
A bird of prey - possibly a hawk - sits atop the Mohali floodlights. A change of bowling as Shoaib Malik's off-spin is introduced, and Gambhir shows him no favours as he carves Malik's first ball through point for four. Gambhir and Tendulkar run a couple of twos, while Shahid Afridi's cap falls off as he makes an accomplished boundary stop. Pakistan's non-playing squad members and coaches all look pretty glum on the sidelines, and there's no let-up as Malik tosses one up and Gambhir lets rip with a lofted cover drive for four. 12 from the over, all to Gambhir. That's it for the powerplays, but I don't think Pakistan will take much consolation from that.
19th over - Ind 113-1
A scampered two from Tendulkar brings up the hundred partnership, from which he has contributed 62 and Gambhir has chipped in with 27. A slower ball from Tanvir is expertly guided away for a single by the "Little Master", who then flashes one away through point for four. Not wanting to tempt fate, but he's on 67 and we've just found out his last ODI hundred was 24 innings ago (on 31 January). He's hit 99 twice in that time.
"I am a proud Pakistani and I want them to win this time - I work in the UAE and next to me sit Indians, I don't want them to start laughing when their team wins and start teasing me. If Pakistan win, everyone will get a free treat from me in the office"
Wadiwala Muhammad Kaisar in the TMS inbox
18th over - Ind 105-1
Tendulkar goes on the attack against Anjum and smashes one over the infield for four past extra cover. He then drops one off his legs to jog through for a single to bring up the Indian hundred as a plane flies by. Gambhir then has to duck a bouncer which ump Shastri signals as an aerial wide. He and Tendulkar are seemingly picking singles up at will. Tendulkar goes for the big one but although he tries to hit over the top, it flies away to fine leg and they take a couple. Pakistan need a wicket, and fast.
"'The bearded Tanvir'!! No details being left out here! Brilliant. Just a shame that Pakistan don't look to be doing so good at the moment..."
Adil from Stockport in the TMS inbox
17th over - Ind 95-1
A miscued hook from Gambhir flies away to fine leg, where it evades the fielder and goes for four. Tendulkar asks for the sightscreens to be moved as Tanvir goes around the wicket and bowls from very wide of the crease, and he dabs one down to fine leg for a single.

16th over - Ind 89-1
Umpire Suresh Shastri wheels his arm in a circle to signal the third powerplay, before thrusting three fingers upwards to indicate that Pakistan can have three fielders outside the circle. Gambhir takes a single off Anjum, while Shoaib has one leg up on an advertising board on the boundary, having a good old leg-stretch. Will they bring him back in search of a wicket? Tendulkar brings up his 86th ODI half-century with another fluent legside four, before a sprawling stop by Salman Butt at backward point restricts him to a single. A prod-and-run single from Gambhir ends the over.
15th over - Ind 82-1
More wonderful timing from Tendulkar as he works Tanvir off his legs down to long leg for four. Tanvir, who's bowling with a bandaged finger, changes the angle by going around the wicket, and that's marginally more effective as the rest of the over is pretty tight.
"Mark, as Sarah from Canterbury's agent, can you inform her fans that she is currently without the use of Internet, due to a reputable internet company being "Rubbish" in her words. She will be back and ready to regail you with her adventures in due course"

14th over - Ind 77-1
Anjum still has a slip in for his second over, and sends down a wide. Gambhir then attempts to drive but nicks one which falls just short of keeper Akmal, who's standing a pretty fair way back, and they trot through for a single. Tendulkar then picks one up beautifully just short of a length, and he guides it expertly to the square-leg boundary for four.
"To answer JD of Wolves, Sarah is the body and spirit of the party, and a bit of feminine charm livens the occasion up (nothing taken away from Paresh and Mark). [No offence taken - MM] I wonder how many like us spend more time reading this commentary than attending to our office duties!"

13th over - Ind 71-1
Right then, normal service has been resumed as soon as possible. My heartfelt thanks to Paresh and the team for filling the breach - I've had a four-and-a-half-hour commute from hell, and I'm looking forward to being entertained by India and Pakistan. Gambhir takes a single off the first ball from the bearded Tanvir, while Tendulkar works him away for a scampered three into the covers, and Gambhir pinches the strike with a single.
"Rob, Rob, Rob (shaking head). You can't possibly need help when it comes to India v Pakistan?! Pakistan all the way! Come on the luminous, hubba bubba coloured pressure-causing-then-crumbling-under-it freaks that are my team!"

12th over: India 66-1
Another change. Rao Iftikhar Anjum on and his first ball goes for four, helped by Sachin down to fine-leg. India on top now after some early struggles.
11th over: India 60-1
A change of bowling. Sohail Tanvir comes on but his second ball is dispatched quite imperiously square on the off-side from Gambhir to bring up the fifty partnership off 60 balls. Strange style this fella Tanvir has, they call him the "left-arm Mike Procter". Mark Mitchener is in the house, to a round of applause.
10th over: India 54-1
Sachin brilliantly flicks Gul down to fine-leg, edges wide of the slips and then caresses majestically through extra-cover for three consecutive fours. It brings up 50 for India and the game's warming up nicely now.
9th over: India 39-1
Tremendous blow from Gambhir to pull Shoaib for his first boundary. Shoaib's not happy and beats him with a quick one.
"I'd just like to know if Sarah form Bucks does anything else with her life other than e-mail TMS during live match commentaries?"JD in Wolves via email
"I'm not really interested in India v Pakistan but the chance to do something other than work and catch up with the adventures of Sarah from Canterbury is too good to miss! Come on India!, no, come on Pakistan!, oh i don't know. Someone help me....."
Rob, Wolverhampton via email
I sense a hornets' nest being disturbed.
8th over: India 35-1
Tendulkar's a bit rattled after making a mess of two big heaves, the ball catching the bat pretty high. Finally he carves Gul backward of point for four to ease the tension.
7th over: India 30-1
A real opportunity for Pakistan. Tendulkar sends Gambhir back and Shoaib Malik, one of the better fielders in the touring team, misses the target from mid-off with Gambhir well short of the crease. Shoaib Akhtar then beats Tendulkar all ends up and taunts the Mumbai maestro. Hmm...
6th over: India 29-1
It's Diwali tomorrow and, traditionally, you clean your home the day before. A real shame I had to be in here otherwise I'd have got the feather duster out. A couple of singles and overthrow keep the scoreboard ticking.
5th over: India 26-1
Crazy stuff from Shoaib. He hurls a terrible wide down the leg-side, then over-steps and pings in another wide one which flies to the boundary. Sachin finishes the over with a glorious flick off middle-stump which races away to the mid-wicket fence.
4th over: India 15-1
Sachin is beaten all ends up by an absolute pearler from Gul, who then finds the edge of Gambhir's bat. Tendulkar cracks the last ball through the covers for three but good stuff from both seamers so far.
"Does anyone else love the 'Not all contributions can be used' bit that has now appeared at the top of the page? Do you guys really get that much abuse when you don't publish peoples' comments?"
Sarah, Bucks, via email
I've been given an easy ride of it so far Sarah but feel free to get stuck in when Mark arrives!
3rd over: India 10-1
Gambhir negotiates several tasty deliveries from a fired-up Shoaib. This pitch has a fair bit of life in it!
2nd over: India 8-1
Sachin takes a blow on the shoulder and the ball flies down to fine-leg for two leg-byes but otherwise a quiet over from Gul.
"I can read the commentary and email you from the middle of nowhere in Uganda on my mobile. Surely Mark can make some witty commentary from a train in the UK?"

1st over - WICKET! Ganguly b Shoaib 6, India 6-1
Ganguly begins in style, flaying Shoaib's second ball for four on the off-side after picking up two from the opener. Tremendous atmosphere already and there we are the first breakthrough! Shoiab switches to round the wicket and an inside edge does for Sourav. Bye bye Prince of Calcutta!
0858: We're almost ready to get going in Mohali, a suburb of the city of Chandigarh in north India.
"Hello from sunny Bahrain. I have a good bet riding on Sehwag making a 50! Come on India!"
Yahya Abdulla via email
0847: Dhoni could also be handed the Test captaincy today, although there have been murmurings that Anil Kumble might be given the job on a short-term basis after Sachin Tendulkar turned it down.
0838: Mahendra Dhoni wins the toss and says India will bat. Both teams have made one change from the first game. Powerful opener Virender Sehwag comes in for the hosts at the expense of spinner Murali Kartik and Pakistan seamer Sohail Tanvir replaces slow left-armer Abdur Rehman.
0830: An early blow for you Mark Mitchener fans. The big man has had a bit of a mare on the trains and will be delayed. I'll try my best to fill the void...

India: Mahendra Dhoni (capt), Saurav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh. Pakistan: Shoaib Malik (capt), Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul Haq, Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Salman Butt only performs against India and no other team?

all these I indulge on a very rare basis.. esp during festive season
At other times .. I live a very baba like life.. visiting gurudwara daily doing sewa no non veg.. etc. etc

kinnu goli?? :laugh4:
i think all these are minor transgressions which one must indulge in too realise the folly of indulging in them big time.. I am pretty sure by the time I hit 30's I would leave all of this except maybe gambling during Diwali... btw I keep gambling money separate and I dont spend it..

FOURTH ONE-DAY INTERNATIONAL, Gwalior:
India 260-4 (46.3 overs) bt Pakistan 255-6 (50 overs) by six wickets

By Paresh Soni

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44241000/jpg/_44241870_tendulkar270.jpg Tendulkar's glorious effort ended in unfortunate circumstances

Sachin Tendulkar hit a stunning 97 as India beat Pakistan by six wickets in Gwalior to claim a first one-day series win over them on home soil since 1983.
Tendulkar was imperious in sharing 107 with Virender Sehwag (43) but fell in the 90s for the sixth time in 2007.
It mattered little as Yuvraj Singh (53no) and Mahendra Dhoni (45no) eased India home with 21 balls to spare.
Mohammad Yousuf finished unbeaten on 99 as the tourists totalled 255-6, with Younus Khan weighing in with 68.
It was a mixed-bag of a batting effort in which no-one really launched a sustained assault.
Salman Butt followed his 129 in Kanpur with a two-ball duck, trapped lbw by one that RP Singh nipped back, and India's seamers maintained a firm stranglehold in the first half of the innings.
Younis was twice almost caught behind off Irfan Pathan before eventually unfurling some delightful strokes as he put on 78 with Shoaib Malik and reached his 29th ODI fifty off 70 balls.
However, after skipper Malik inside-edged a delivery on to his middle-stump to hand Zaheer his 200th ODI wicket, another period of consolidation was required.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif606: DEBATE
Have your say on the action in Gwalior (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A29112365)

Number three Younus swept Harbhajan Singh for six and Yousuf cut Sehwag powerfully to signal a change of tempo in their partnership of 51 but two quick wickets set Pakistan back again.
Younus got a leading edge back to slow left-armer Yuvraj and Shahid Afridi provided Sourav Ganguly with his 100th ODI victim, falling lbw trying to work the ball on the leg-side.
Yousuf, who reached his 59th ODI half century off 64 balls, was becalmed by those blows and he and Misbah-ul-Haq (40) only intermittently pierced the field with some good timing.
A heave off Harbhajan over deep mid-wicket for six and crash over cover off RP Singh were among the highlights from Yousuf, while Misbah smashed RP Singh down the ground for a maximum.
But there was little else to truly excite as India's trio of left-arm pacemen resumed their earlier control.
Yousuf did manage a straight six off Singh in the final over after Misbah had been cleaned up by a Pathan off-cutter to end their stand of 94 in 15 overs.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44241000/jpg/_44241826_yousuf.jpg Yousuf mixed caution with some occasional big shots

If Pakistan were in contention then, they were in the ascendency when Ganguly edged Shoaib Akhtar to second slip and Gautam Gambhir pulled Rao Iftikhar Anjum straight to square-leg.
However, as the wicket livened up under the lights, Tendulkar came to the fore with a 102-ball masterclass featuring a sumptuous array of leg-side flicks and drives through the arc between point and cover.
Anything even a fraction short or wide was ruthlessly punished and so dominant was he that it almost escaped unnoticed that the man at the other end was Sehwag, himself no slouch.
Comprehensively overshadowed by the efforts of his partner, Sehwag provided a reminder of his power by driving Anjum quite majestically through the covers and thrashing Afridi over wide long-on for six.
It was not long before Tendulkar took the lead again, however, blasting Afridi over cover, backward of and in front of point for three boundaries in as many balls.
Pakistan were wilting but they had some relief when Sehwag was run out by a direct hit from Malik at mid-off and 10 balls later most of the crowd groaned when Tendulkar got an inside edge on to his stumps off Gul. That window of opportunity for the visitors was closed with the minimum of fuss by Dhoni and Yuvraj, who between them launched a series of blistering cuts, pulls and cover-drives to render Sunday's finale in Jaipur academic.

More like "that australia never lose a game":(

its just a couple of hrs in and australia have notched up 100+ with no fall of wicket.
Harbjhan singh looking annoyed, india looking a little bit ordinary, Ozzies look to taking command and firin the cylinders.
