Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Iran's president Ahmedinajad get heckled by students at Tehran University? They didn't get tasered did they? Thought not.

Damn 30 post rule all I was doing was quoting QUOTING I SAY.
Anyway, that student certainly had to learn the hard way free speech can hurt.

They should have tazzered his *** again. He was given his chance to speak. He did not give up the mic and he was being disruptive. I thought the whole thing was hilarious.

Before beating on the police, research the incident. \
Not only did the 'student' get filmed by multiple people, but he had also passed on his own camera to have someone tape it for him. It was a setup. He set the situation up himself.
After being asked to leave, having his mike turned off for profanity, security was called to escort him away.
He (student) began raising his voice and pulling away from them.
Security made repeated attempts to escort him away.
If he would have obeyed, nothing would have happened.
When he began physically reacting to the police and not obeying commands is when they appear to attempt to handcuff him for control.
Again they repeatedly instruct him to comply or else, then one makes the statement loud and clear that if he does not obey they wil tas hiim.
It was all the students fault.
He even tells the police later that he isn't mad at them for doing their job.
Apparently when he wasn't in front of a camera he was very calm.
What it was is some smart a@@ kid who took making a statement to far.
His apparent attempt to make 'something' out of the event worked.

That doesn't really matter now does it.
After being asked to leave, having his mike turned off for profanity, security was called to escort him away.
That part they had a right to do.

When you have 4 officers over you with your face in the ground tasing is excessive force.
It was all the students fault.

Excessive force is never the victims fault... the security had the right to escort him off the property but he was no danger to anyone and had no right to taser him when he was face down. That is why these officers are suspended and will soon be fired.

Mahati you will blindly accpet anything American won't you?
This is what Mahati subscribes to...
1. The word "freedom," which can be interpreted in various ways, is defined by us as follows -
2. Freedom is the right to do what which the law allows. This interpretation of the word will at the proper time be of service to us, because all freedom will thus be in our hands, since the laws will abolish or create only that which is desirable for us according to the aforesaid program.
3. We shall deal with the press in the following way: what is the part played by the press to-day? It serves to excite and inflame those passions which are needed for our purpose or else it serves selfish ends of parties. It is often vapid, unjust, mendacious, and the majority of the public have not the slightest idea what ends the press really serves. We shall saddle and bridle it with a tight curb: we shall do the same also with all productions of the printing press, for where would be the sense of getting rid of the attacks of the press if we remain targets for pamphlets and books? The produce of publicity, which nowadays is a source of heavy expense owing to the necessity of censoring it, will be turned by us into a very lucrative source of income to our State: we shall lay on it a special stamp tax and require deposits of caution-money before permitting the establishment of any organ of the press or of printing offices; these will then have to guarantee our government against any kind of attack on the part of the press. For any attempt to attack us, if such still be possible, we shall inflict fines without mercy. Such measures as stamp tax, deposit of caution-money and fines secured by these deposits, will bring in a huge income to the government. It is true that party organs might not spare money for the sake of publicity, but these we shall shut up at the second attack upon us. No one shall with impunity lay a finger on the aureole of our government infallibility. The pretext for stopping any publication will be the alleged plea that it is agitating the public mind without occasion or justification. I BEG YOU TO NOTE THAT AMONG THOSE MAKING ATTACKS UPON US WILL ALSO BE ORGANS ESTABLISHED BY US, BUT THEY WILL ATTACK EXCLUSIVELY POINTS THAT WE HAVE PRE-DETERMINED TO ALTER.

Well hello I am an American! For the record I have repeatedly said I do not support Bush, I do not support the Republicans, I do not support Americas foreign policy, and I definitely do not support our troops being in Iraq.
Now if you look at the facts of this case this idiot kid set the whole thing up. He wanted his 15 minutes of fame. Nobody took his free speech away. He got his time on the mic and then chose to be disruptive. We do not allow anarchy to reign in the name of free speech.

All of you should find out what was actually happening...
Yes tasering was excessive but they definatly had the right to drag him out of the room because he was disrupting the whole event. The other students clapped when the security guards moved in to get him to move. So stop saying "ooh wheres the freedom of speech".
Heckler's are removed everywhere. The only difference here is that they tasered him, but excessive force has NOTHING to do with freedom of speech.

Here's a thought. At these types of events, with that many people in the crowd, they usully have 2 mics. The can turn one off and pass the other one to another student in another part of the room.
This was a disaster for the organisers, and even assuming Chris Meyer planned the whole thing (there's no way he could plan getting tased) - there were ways for the organisers not to escalate matters (see above). Also its a university event, there are always hecklers, remember Sandy Berger and Madeleine Albright at Ohio State? For that idiot John Kerry to just stand there like a zombie making jokes and answering the question about the 2004 election while the kid is getting tased just makes me glad he didn't get elected. I think even Bush may have intervened.
And for the record I googled John Kerry and Skull and Bones and got this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yOF713wOD4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiisokDGbfA&NR=1
So whats the point of an election where the only 2 participants both belong to the same secret society!! What democracy is that?? If it was in the Muslim world and you had the same scenario but with some dark closet secret society of our own, the 'free press' in the US would freak out...

They should have removed him by other means. Tasers are between bare hands/batons and the handgun. I see nothing that couldnt have been solved without this kind use of force.

Uk coppers dont have guns - Simple.
since this terrorism BS you can see more at major train stations airports etc, but generally no guns.
If a crime with a gun is taking place, police need clearance before they can send armed police.

Well, we have low level of street crimes, but the other types of crimes are pretty common. This is pretty violent country and homicide figures are among the worst in Europe, but that does not make people feel uncomfortable at the streets asthe typical kill occurs when two alcoholics start want to figure out who´s the more dangerous one.. and the second most common incidence happens within the family. Both are tragic but do not make our streets dangerous and are easily investigated by the law enforcement.
The good thing we have is that the corruption is almost nonexistent, but the sad fact is that the street crime is in huge rise (this years first half; +20% batteries and robberies, +55% rapes) and that the police has been caught while trying to make statistics look better. I have actually personal experience from this: I was attacked by skinheads and they used pepper spray in the attack and our law says that if there is any weapons involved it is always an aggravated assault - that was investigated as such but when the case dried out, they closed it as normal assault and there were no mentioning about the pepper-spray in the final report.
The brighter side from this development is that the situation is still contained in few bigger towns and capital region, so something could be done...
ADD: CCTVs are still rare excl. central areas of few bigger towns.

I haven't been to the UK since before 9-11 which was when I finished uni so I don't know what it's like now.
I'll tell you that you don't want to get involved with Russian MVD in situation like this. They would not only beat you down they take your wallet and valuables to. While there are a few good ones the majority of militia are stupid and corrupt. It doesn't take much qualification to get hired and they look for bribes wherever they can take it. They will steal off you to. There is a saying here about militia... The reason they travel in pairs is because they need one to read the ticket and the other to write it. The other reason is they need the other to cover their arse when you file charges for robbery.

Shocking crime stats on Finland. I'm reading 'Freakonomics' at the moment and there's a lot in there about crime stats and the real reasons for increases in crimes. Sorry to hear you got pepper sprayed, thats bloody ridiculous - I don't know what the hell I'd do in that situation - or after come to think about it. Guess there's not much you can do. Bloody skinheads. Russia doens't surprise me, I know people who travel there and I get all sorts of stories back! One guy went on a business trip and was questioned so thoroughly by the driver the company hired - he had to ask for a new driver. I know someone who got stopped by the police and they wouldn't release him or his friend till they transfered $2000. Which they did. I won't be going to Moscow anytime soon.
