Manchester United moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's double.
Christopher Samba came very close to giving Blackburn the lead when his rising shot crashed against the bar.
But Ronaldo's header and a side-footed finish, in the space of two first-half minutes, put United in total control.
And any hope Blackburn had of salvaging a point disappeared when David Dunn was sent off for picking up a second yellow card early in the second half.

Dunn's second booking was for a trip on Louis Saha and was possibly deserved, though his first booking, after he was adjudged to have fouled Carlos Tevez, looked a bit harsh.
However even before Dunn's dismissal Blackburn faced an uphill task after those two Ronaldo goals.

The year 2007 is turning out to be something of an annus mirabilis for Ronaldo, who has now scored a remarkable 26 goals for club and country in 51 games.
The Portuguese winger's double brought his season's tally to 10 and he came close to adding to it and claiming his first hat-trick for United when his quicksilver feet created the space for a long-range shot that went just over the bar.
And late on Ronaldo was denied by Brad Friedel, who also saved well from Rio Ferdinand.
Prior to Saturday Blackburn had recorded seven wins in eight games and initially Rovers more than matched United, with strikers Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy looking lively.
True, Blackburn had to survive some nervy moments and Friedel saved well from Carlos Tevez, while David Bentley had to clear a Ronaldo shot off the line.
Likewise Ryan Nelsen did well to block a Tevez shot, as did Morten Gamst Pedersen to charge down a Wes Brown effort.
But Blackburn had chances as well, notably when Samba's powerful shot cannoned off the crossbar.
Enter Ronaldo, not for the first time in his career, to change the shape of the game.
He is not renowned for his heading ability, but the header he scored to give United the lead was a goal any centre forward would have been proud of.
Ryan Giggs swung over the corner from the left and Ronaldo's leap generated plenty of power for his goalward header.
Bentley was again on the line, though this time he was unable to rescue his side, only helping the ball into the roof of the net.
A minute later Blackburn's defence was unravelled by some impressive combination play involving Saha, Tevez and Ronaldo.
Saha flicked the ball to Tevez and the Argentine's superb cross - hit with the outside of his right foot - provided the space and time for Ronaldo to clip the ball past Friedel.
United keeper Edwin van der Sar had an altogether quieter time of it and he spent the second half as a virtual spectator until he had to get down quickly to save a Samba header.
After Dunn was sent off, Pedersen also briefly glimpsed goal, but the Norwegian blasted over.
In the closing minutes Ronaldo blotted his copybook when he was booked for a cynical push on Nelsen, a foul that left the New Zealander in a heap against the advertising hoardings.
Arsenal, who have played two games less than United, will return to the top if they beat Reading by two goals or more at the Madejski Stadium on Monday.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Anderson, Hargreaves (Carrick 77), Giggs, Tevez, Saha (Nani 68).
Subs Not Used: Kuszczak, O'Shea, Fletcher.
Booked: Ronaldo.
Goals: Ronaldo 34, 35.
Blackburn: Friedel, Emerton, Samba, Nelsen, Warnock, Bentley, Dunn, Mokoena, Pedersen, Santa Cruz (Derbyshire 78), McCarthy.
Subs Not Used: Brown, Ooijer, Kerimoglu, Berner.

It was a good win, still, Ronaldo is a cocky guy who needs a slap.

Thats what angers his opponents and opposing fans.

He has the right attitude to become one of the best in UK football history.

He has the right attitude to become one of the best in UK football history.

He's probably provoking the opposition on purpose to further is popularity.

Anyways, aslong he's winning for the team, that's what is important.

Carlos Tevez's first-half winner gave Manchester United a priceless victory at title rivals Liverpool.
Tevez was lurking to turn in Wayne Rooney's driven shot from a Ryan Giggs corner three minutes before half-time.
Liverpool had earlier come close, but Patrice Evra scrambled Harry Kewell's shot off the line and Fernando Torres sent a header inches wide.
Rooney wasted a great chance to double United's lead late on, but he side-footed wide from only six yards.

It will take a mammoth effort for Benitez to finally realise the dream of bringing the title back to Liverpool (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A30210940)

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty

It made uncomfortable viewing for Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, at Anfield before their summit meeting with boss Rafael Benitez after their recent disagreements.
The defeat leaves the Merseysiders outside the top four and nine points behind arch rivals United.
Liverpool, unchanged for only the third time in Benitez's reign, created the clearer openings in a disjointed first 45 minutes.
Jamie Carragher's 27th-minute header created confusion in the United penalty area, and when Evra cleared Harry Kewell's shot off the line, Torres headed just wide.
United were under pressure again three minutes later when keeper Edwin van der Sar misjudged Steven Gerrard's free-kick.
The ball bounced towards goal off Rio Ferdinand's head, but once again Evra was alert to clear as Dirk Kuyt closed in.
United capped their best spell of the game by taking the lead three minutes before the interval.
Liverpool boss Benitez was left fuming as his side failed to mark Rooney from Giggs' corner, and when the former Everton star lashed the ball into the danger area, Tevez was on hand to turn home from six yards out.
United were surviving in relative comfort, and Benitez made an inevitable change after 65 minutes, replacing the disappointing Kewell with Ryan Babel, with Kuyt quickly following as Peter Crouch came on.
It at least sparked Liverpool's best effort of the game as Babel shot inches wide from 25 yards after collecting Wes Brown's poor header.
Rooney then wasted a glorious opportunity to seal the points for United at the end of a lightning break, but he shot hopelessly wide from close range from Cristiano Ronaldo's pass.
Liverpool pressed, but lacked any ideas going forward and United's defensive resilience earned the three points.

Man Utd 3-0 Liverpool

By Chris Bevan

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44510000/jpg/_44510360_ronaldo270afp.jpg Ronaldo celebrates after scoring United's second goal

Manchester United outclassed 10-man Liverpool to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League table.
Wes Brown put United ahead from Wayne Rooney's cross before Liverpool's hopes were hit when Javier Mascherano was sent off for dissent before the break.
Pepe Reina made some great saves but he was at fault when Cristiano Ronaldo headed home United's second and Nani's fine finish completed an emphatic win.
Chelsea's victory over Arsenal leaves United five points clear at the top.
Make your Premier League predictions (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/predictor/default.stm)

Sunday's results leave United in pole position to retain their title with seven games of the season to go but the main talking point after this match was Mascherano's dismissal.
The Argentine midfielder, who had been booked early on for a wild challenge on Paul Scholes, foolishly chose to continue an argument that his team-mate Fernando Torres had started with referee Steve Bennett over a series of challenges by United players.
In a week dominated by discussion of Ashley Cole's conduct towards the officials during Chelsea's draw with Tottenham on Wednesday, the spotlight was always going to be on how Bennett reacted here.

Mascherano should not have been sent off...he was just talking calmly to the ref (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A33755556)

Torres had already been booked for dissent when Mascherano got involved so, if Bennett was to be consistent, he had no choice but to produce another yellow card.
The decision further infuriated Mascherano, who had to be escorted off the pitch, and his manager Rafa Benitez was also left angry.

It also virtually ended his side's hopes of getting anything from the game, as United had dominated even when Liverpool had 11 men on the pitch.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men had created all the best chances in the opening period and only some superb saves by Reina kept the home side at bay.
United could have had a penalty when Jamie Carragher clipped Rooney in the area but the striker stayed on his feet and his eventual shot was saved by the Spaniard.
Reina came to the rescue again when Paul Scholes' free-kick caught the Liverpool defence napping, collecting the ball after Rooney failed to control it.
The Reds' best spell followed when they at last threatened Edwin van der Sar's goal.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44510000/jpg/_44510262_wesbrownscores.jpg Brown met Rooney's cross to score past Reina

Fabiano Aurelio sliced his shot wide when well placed inside the area, while Steven Gerrard had a rasping effort deflected over soon after.
But United were still threatening themselves and Ronaldo hit the post from a Ryan Giggs free-kick, only to be wrongly ruled offside, before Reina almost fumbled Giggs' cross into his own net.
The Liverpool defence was struggling with any high balls played into the area and it was no great surprise when United took the lead through that route.
Martin Skrtel did not attempt to reach Rooney's cross and Brown beat Reina to the ball, which looped into the net off his back.
Mascherano's red card meant Liverpool had it all to do after the break and, if not for their goalkeeper, they would have been dead and buried.
Scholes' clever lob sent Ronaldo clear but Reina came out to block and, after watching Ronaldo's free-kick fly narrowly wide, he saved his side again with an instinctive stop from Rooney.

Reina made another instinctive save to deny United substitute Carlos Tevez after Alvaro Arbeloa had inadvertently steered the ball into the striker's path.
He also did brilliantly to push away Ronaldo's shot but will not enjoy watching a replay of the resultant corner, from which the Portuguese star rose above him to head home.
Nani's thumping finish from the edge of the area only underlined United's superiority as Liverpool's seven-game winning run came to an abrupt halt.

Subs Not Used: Kuszczak, Hargreaves, O'Shea.
