On July 28, 2006, the US DSCA informed Congress [PDF format] that Government of Saudi Arabia wishes to purchase 58 M1A1 Abrams tanks, then upgrade these M1A1s along with its existing 315 M1A2 Abrams tanks to the M1A2S (Saudi) Abrams configuration. The sale will include kits, spare and repair parts, communications and support equipment, publications and technical data, personnel training and training equipment, contractor engineering and technical support services and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $2.9 billion. This contract also dovetails well with their recent $276 million Cooperative Logistics Supply Support Agreement, which ensures support and spare parts for their American-made land equipment.
Looks like the Saudi Abrams' are getting upgraded.

I think Saudi Arabia should have focused on improving its transport infrastructure to get the Abrams into battle as opposed to upgrades to the tank itself. Saudi doesn't even have enough tank crews to operate them all.

more money to be wasted. why don't they instead spend those billions on palestinian brothers who keep getting oppressed everyday by the Israeli government?, why not give out all those money to hamas for support?.
saudi arabia should invest in know-how and resaerch and buy scientsits like the US

Just that the goodies have been taken out. Much like the Saudi F-15S doesn't have the goodies avialable on the F-15E or F-15I (meaning they're not particularly effective in high-tech situations) personally I think Saudi Arabia would have done better in going for the Challenger 2 which has proven its superiority over the M-1A2 'Abrams' time & again.

At least they have AWACS, otherwise the F-15s they have would be totally ineffective. It's a force multiplier & when you have American crews they need need go up against the 'wrong people' as it were.

pal, what i mean is-the american crews are manning the control consoles and they can refused to acknowledge anything related to israeli activities around the arabian airspace,in case...they can say "aha,we don't detect any intruders in your airspace":worried2: :worried2:

Why should Saudi Arabia spend those billions on Palestinians? They should care for themselves before they care for others. Maybe they don't want to fund a terror group who will just spend money on war equipmentonly. Funding Hamas does nothing except cause more wars for Palestine. By not giving Hamas money, they are helping Palestinians.

What does Palestinians selecting Hamas have to do with Saudi Arabia giving money to Hamas? Anyhow, many Palestinians protest Hamas because they can't pay anyone who works for the government, plus all money goes to war, rather then helping their own people. This is why many Palestinians are leading towards Abbas, because of his more moderate policies, where money will go to Palestinians instead of towards an unwinable war against Israel.

They had to go right to get extra Saudi funding as the Saudis wanted an alternative to FATEH who they didn't forgive after 1991! All the same, HAMAS refuses to be a Saudi play-thing.
