German police probe child deaths

Two mothers have been detained in Germany on suspicion of killing their eight young children, in two separate cases that have shocked the nation.
The bodies of five boys aged between three and nine were found at a house in the northern village of Darry. Their mother, 31, is now in psychiatric care.

Earlier, a woman aged 28 was held after the bodies of her three baby girls were found in eastern Germany.

She is suspected of having killed them shortly after they were born.

The bodies of the girls, born between 2002 and 2005, were discovered at two flats belonging to relatives of the woman in the town of Plauen. She denies killing the girls.

Autopsies

In the Darry case, police said the five boys had suffered "violent" deaths.



"As far as currently known, the motive is to be sought in the mother's mental illness," police in the state of Schleswig-Holstein said.

It is believed the mother gave the boys sleeping pills and then suffocated them with plastic bags.

The woman is now at a psychiatric facility as police continue their search for evidence.

In the Plauen case, the baby girls' bodies were found wrapped in plastic in a suitcase, on a balcony and in a freezer.

Autopsies are being carried out to establish the exact causes of death.

"It is highly improbable that they all died of natural causes directly after birth," said Bernd Vogel, a prosecutor in the eastern state of Saxony, quoted by the AFP news agency.

I hope this terrible thing will not be the start of a trend... Some months ago, I heard of comparable case in which a Belgian mother with mental problems called her kids upstairs into her room, killing them one by one. The oldest girl struggled against her and died very slowly. These things arwe terrible and the mothers deserve death penalty for causing so much harm. Infanticide is one the most disgusting crimes I can possible think of... :(

I can understand if such types of things are happening in poor and backward countries but in Western world i cant understand ,how mothers can do this even when Governments are helping them and even doing best for their citizens .

Now its becoming quite normal in Western world that mothers are killing thier own Kids .
Every time i hear that only females with mental problems do such big crimes .but i think the real problem lies here that Western world should let and adopt family values more and Government should do more for teh implementation of family values.

Not all western people are rich, nor are they all in good health. I live in Frisia, which is one of the Netherlands poorest provinces, and still over all, live is good here and people are relatively rich. That does not mean there are no poor people here; when going out on the streets in one of the bigger cities, you can easily see beggars and tramps on the streets, and the same goes for Germany. When the vast majority of all people are rich, this does not mean this goes for all inhabitants of a certain country or region. The werstern world also has poor people, just as Arabic world has, the only difference is that here there are less and we hide them well for the public eye...

I do understand what u r trying to say but living standard is good in Western world compare that to Third world countries and even poverty level is low .

Government in Western world do help thier poor citizens alot and even there are many charities working in Western world compare to deveolping countries .

I m not sayiung that such incidents doesnt happens in deveolping countries where parents abondaned thier kids but people in western world are edcuated and time to time many talk that they are from civilised world and value life ,but when crimes like this occur in Western world , its simply closed by saying that this person was having Mental problems .

Take example of France , this year 72 females were murdered and more than 3000 domestic violence incidents against females have occured according to CNN . but there will be no big uproar in Western media and if something happens in deveolping country such as China or India , it would be on media coverage and seen time to time .

When some thing happens in any one of the Muslim country , for the whole Islam is targetted .

Even in Muslim world ,every country do have its own tradition and Customs and different ways .Why such things doesnt western media understand .
