Iran, a model for development: Chavez
2005/10/30
Tehran, Oct 30 - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Saturday his country considers Iran as a model for development and would utilize Iran's help in rendering service to people.
There are a number of grounds for mutual cooperation in economic and technical fields in particular, namely setting up of a tractor manufacturing factory and housing projects, he told visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and America Saeed Jalili.
Chavez noted that Venezuela's vote in the UN nuclear watchdog had been based on mutual friendship, saying, Venezuela is committed to defend Iran whenever the government and nation of Iran wish it to do so.
Jalili, who is on a tour of South American countries, submitted the written message of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Chavez expressing Iran's appreciation for the recent stance Venezuela took in the IAEA governing board meeting last month.
Given the potentials of the two countries, Iran and Venezuela should prepare the ground for expansion of cooperation among south countries to prevent unilateralism in the world.
The Iranian envoy, in his South American tour, has visited Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador where he discussed bilateral, regional and international issues with high-ranking officials of those countries.
The trip is in line with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's policy of expanding relations with other nations based on friendship, justice.

I was under the impression Italy hated Iran, recently it appears they are pulling out more troops! I guess it shows public support in Italy for a pull out is pressuring chavez

Privately, many Latin American leaders consider Chavez a fool and buffoon. I'm not going to convince you here, I'm certain, but do the research and you'll hear this a lot.

Latin American leaders?? Don't make me laugh!
That is like asking King Abdullah II of Jordan what he thinks about Ahmadinejad, of course he will say he doesn't like him but due to his own political allies and ties. Has nothing to do with their own opinions of the leader.

Latin America has alot of resorces, but because of major corruption in goverment they are in poverty for the most part. But again this is supose to be our fault? Not! Like in Mexico they are only allowed to earn 5.00 a day! When the goverment puts a cap on wages how are you suppose to get ahead? No wonder they come accross the border. they make more in one hour than they do all day at home. Everyone likes to blame the U.S. for their problems but it usally lies a little closer to home. Then again when we try to get their goverments to fly a little straighter it's we're sticking our nose in for the wrong reasons. America is made up of EVERY other country in the world. Mostly white, but not all. So when you cut down America you really are part of the problem and not part of the solution. my 2 cents

Chavez is a monkey being used by Fidel. He uses his country's wealth to build his military machine. He has called for Dutch Islands in the Carribean and British and French territories in the region to be given back to Venezuela,He has even threatened military agression against her neighboors such as Colombia. He will also not participate in military operation to eradicate FARC forces,But he gives them refugee and weapons.
The more weapons he gets he will be like a monkey with a handgun..
Just look at Cuba has less than a 20 billion dollar economy and most of her people are imprisoned and starving.Chavez does some good by helping the poor but I know what his true intentions are.

second that!
Third that......... i'd rather live in Venezuela than colombia! I worked with a guy from Cali the second biggest city in colombia and the stuff he told me that was going on there is crazy people are getting murdered just for being in an trade union! of course the murders were apparently carried out by right wing paramilitaries although the divide between these and the government forces is extrememly blurred i.e colusion is widespread
heres one example.....
Two years ago SINALTRAINAL (the Colombian Food and Drink Workers Union)
launched an international boycott of Coca Cola and all its products, in
response to a brutal policy of terror and repression that Coca Cola had
unleashed against their own workers in Colombia. Since 1994, 8 Coca-Cola
workers and SINALTRAINAL union leaders have been assassinated by
paramilitaries, who the evidence suggests, were hired by Colombia’s
Coca-Cola management. Hundreds of other workers and union members have been
imprisoned, tortured, threatened, disappeared or forced into exile.
Individuals and social and trade union organisations all around the world
have pledged their support of the boycott (including UNISON, PCS, the
Scottish Socialist Party, Stop the War Coalition; plus SOAS, Bristol,
Middlesex, Leeds, Sussex, Queens Belfast Universities).
However Coke have refused to abandon their hard line, have refused to
negotiate with SINALTRAINAL, and the repression against the workers has
continued. Since the boycott started on 22 July 2003,
· Coke workers in Colombia had to go on hunger strike to fight mass
sackings.
· Union Vice President Juan Carlos Galvis was injured in an
assassination attempt.
· Union leader Luis Eduardo Garcia’s son escaped from a paramilitary
kidnap.
· 4 members of union leader Efrain Guerrero’s family were
slaughtered in their beds by paramilitaries
· Coke launched their seventh libel case against a SINALTRAINAL
leader.
When the union launched the boycott campaign, they knew there would be a
price to pay, and are relying on international support and solidarity to see
them through to the end of their fight for justice. We have a moral
obligation to support the workers of SINALTRAINAL.

sad sad sad....Dutch ISlands??British Islands??French Islands??
Hummm.....who gave them those islands??How did those islands become british and fellow criminal imperialist islands???
They stole them!!! Killed off all the indegenous peoples!!!Venezuela has claim to those islands!!! HAS MORE OF A RIGHT TO THOSE ISLANDS THAN ANY EUROPEAN NATION!!!
What should Hugo Chavez be like the other leaders of Latin America such as Trujillo, Pinochet, Batista, and the other despicable despots whom have plundered and destroyed Latin America with in the name of Freedom with blessing from the USA???Would u be so angry with him if he behaved like them??
Why should he fight against those whom are stuggling for freedom in Colombia??? Should he support the oppressive government of colombia which oppresses its own peoples especially in regions such as EL CHOCO??
VIVA CHAVEZ

Who is Irans best Ally in the Middle East, Syria perhaps? didn't they sign a mutual security pact with Iran this year? certainly both of these countries seem to be coming under pressure from the US and in this respect it would be in both their interests to show a united front.

A war in South America with any EU nation would cripple our economies.Sure those Islands are Venezuela,But Venezuela is Colombia! and so is Ecuador,Panama and a list of other nations which were under our rules. So by saying this should Colombia take back her rightful states?
Colombia's government is oppresive how so? Freedom of speech and women do not have to cover up with rags in the blistering sun.
Oppresive? From a Saudi.I'am I suppose to take this serious. The worlds most oppresive governments are those fat kings that rule your country. They oppres there people more than any Latin Nation.
How is the house of Saud these days?

Chavez may be popular everywhere else in Latin America, but not in Brazil.
Although our president has a close relationship with Chavez... it does not represent the opinion of the vast majority of brazilians. In fact, he is severely and frequently criticized by the media and congress here, because of this.

Because Brazilians have a warped arrogant Proto Portugese mentality.
Righteousness is just outright foreign to them excepting some minorities and indigenous peoples that tend to be fought against / killed anyway.
You're all good F****** in public and spreading Aids than to stand up and represent something worthwhile in Brazil.
