India may revise stance on Iran nuke programme: Natwar
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh Sunday said India might revise its stand on referring Iran's nuclear programme to the UN Security Council if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a more "severe" approach to the issue.

"If a resolution is placed at the IAEA (in its next meeting) which is more severe than the last one, my recommendation as the foreign minister to the government of India would be to revise our vote," he told reporters on the sidelines of a conclave here.

At the last meeting of IAEA's board of governors in September, India had backed a resolution that brought Iran to the brink of referral to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions.

That resolution had, however, left some space for resolving the issue through negotiations.

The IAEA board is scheduled to meet again Nov 24.

In his speech delivered at the inauguration of the "India-Africa Project Partnership 2005" conclave organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Natwar Singh indicated that India decided on key issues like the Iran nuclear programme while "keeping in view our vital national interests".

Natwar Singh, under a could for allegations that he illegally benefited from Iraq's oil-for-food programme, also spoke of New Delhi's long-standing relations with Baghdad.
