The Islamic Republic of Iran has two kinds of armed forces: the regular forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Both fall under the command of the Supreme Leader, unlike most countries, in which the military is under the president or defense minister. [1]
The regular armed forces has three branches: Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps has five branches: Qods Force (Special Forces), Basij (Paramilitary), Navy, Air Force, and the Ground Forces.

Yeah Ive heard about your revolutionary guard and the Basij (Paramilitary) force, you guys must be proud, they seem to be quite content beating up your brothers and sisters when they demonstrate for basic freedom on university grounds.

yeah, ur right. '98 '99 u could smell revolution in the air. and u know why it died down a little? cuz al these US threats have made the hardline voices stronger. everytime the US threatens attack that rallies people behind the regime no matter how much they hate the regime, cuz at the end of the day doenst matter how much u hate the regime, ull back the regime under a foreign attack
add that to the nuclear issue, which pro-regime and anti-regime folks both can agree on and u have a scenario where people get bonded behind the regime
