i wanted to know how many iran has, has it upgraded them, where are they used.
information on wiki gives a poor performance, thought maybe it can be usefull in terms of reverse engineeing

My guess is that Iran has a lot of rapier missiles...because we have paraded the missiles on several occasion, and given that the threat of american planes flying low is certain, the continuity of this system is secured in the Iranian armed forces...the lowlevel overpass of the agressor planes, make this kind of systm very effective indeed in case of attack...

The blue-painted RAPIER missiles are inert training rounds.
RAPIER is similar to the SA-8. Good for low-altitude work, but can be more effective when integrated with AAA and other low-altitude SAM systems.

I got this from a Falklands vet that their results with the rapier even in the hands of well trained brits were poor.
Good Luck Everyone

wiki pedia says the same, but they kept it secret so they can sell it as an effective weapon to generate revenue for BAE

Why someone call it "crappy" weapon?
Entering service in 1971, it eventually replaced all other anti-aircraft weapons in Army service; guns for low-altitude targets, and the English Electric Thunderbird, used against longer-range and higher-altitude targets. It remains the UK's primary air-defense weapon after almost 35 years of service, and is expected to serve until 2020.

CROATIAN: The RAPIER has done well against a range of targets including loft-delivered aerial bombs. It is an older system and is getting long in the tooth.
The radar system may be able to provide fire control data to AA guns that are located nearby, even if the RAPIER missiles are not up to par.
