Leopard 2A4, part of the interim program to replace M60A3s and AMX-30s before the Leopard 2E was ready for production. AFAIK, most Leopard 2A4s are now with Eurocorps.

BTW, what you think about spanish tanks? Leopard are a good purchase, but I think are insufficient in number, even more considering AMX and M-60 are retired...

Are they only going to purchase those 300 or so Leopard 2Es? I expected them to replace all of their M60s, which are ~400, no?

Yes, 216 Leopard 2E (Leopard 2A6), and the other around 100 (109 if I'm not wrong) Leopard 2A4 that were leased from Germany will be also finally bought and will be upgraded to Leopard 2E level.

IIRC, the Leopard 2A4 procurement begun in 1999, according to an article published in ARMOR magazine. My dream has always been to drive a Leopard 2E, but I don't know what kind of post-degree offers the Spanish Army offers. I visited El Goloso last summer, but didn't get a chance to go in because you have to call them to get a date [I emailed them, they gave me a number but didn't tell me it was absolutely necessary to call]. Meh. I think I'm transferring into La Complutense, so I should have enough time to deal with it there. :)
