Does the Iranian Navy have a larger number of minelayers?

How would the Iranian Navy try to block the persian gulf?

Iran has lots of mines and some modern chinese mines too the problem is how to laid them my advice to iran navy is at the 1 signals of war or hostility like a onu ultimate aka usa they sould put remote controls mines in stand by at the first sign and the subs like kilos etcshould be always at nearst base of straith of hormuz to go out of golf it could be suicide mission but would have impact if in the start of the war usa loose i dont say acarrier but one destroyer or two frigates .

I think the mines themself schould not be the problem, Iran is able to manufacture them itself.

The problem is in the deployment...
To lay the mines before a declaration of war could be very dangerous because it will raise the international pressure against Iran enormous.
Imagine a oiltanker damaged or sunk before declaration of war..., Iran will look like the agressor. Even if the mines are remote controled (dont know if this is possible because they are around 10 meters under the surface) its to dangerous to lay them before declaration of war.

The question is: Is the Iran navy able to deploy a great number of mines under the pressure of the US navy, after a declaration of war?

I don`t belive that the iranian subs are able to sink or damage an Us Navy destroyer, like you said that is suicide.
But when they are able to leave the gulf iran schould use them to attack the
civilian shiping of Oil.
This will raise the Oilprice even more and should lead to enormous pressure on the western leaders, more than an questionable sinking or damaging of 1
US destroyer.
Hit a tanker and then try to escape before Us Navy is in place, and then hide a while and attack the next ship. This will lead to a confusen in the cililian shipping...

yeah and sauidi arabia, uae, kuwait, russia etc will increase their production to stabilize oil market.furthermore you will be considered as a real terrorist state after attacking civillian tankers and whole world will turn their backs to you

Why that?
When you attack the supplylines of your enemy during war, that has nothing to do with terrorism.
Germany did it in both wars in the atlantic, and the Us in the Pacific in WW2.

yeah germany did that and that followed by america's war declaration:)

first of all you said sinking tankers.most of the tankers are not usa origined.japan,china,germany,uk... many countrys have tankers in persian gulf

missiles cant deliver mines....

anyway, this scenario (of iran laying mines) is impossible, because as a user said above, you cant lay them until after war is declared (unless you do them in your own waters). after war is declared, the US will simple destroy the iranian navy and airforce within a day....

then iran will have no chance of laying mines.

They should create something arieal that can fly over the water and drop the mines something like a helicopter or ballon that can carry the mine and when it's flying above the spot you press a buttom to drop it

they use MLRS to deploy mines...

Not the sea mines.., but Iranians can lay encapsulated torpedos as the mines and programmed it to the sound characteristics of U.S. ships.

Or use the "Q" ship, a civilian ship with mines as the auxiliary minelayer.

An "upgraded" tanker can wear very huge amount of mines.
Antennae mines, bottom mines, CAPTOR like mines..
And.., because the innovations in minehunting are very fast, the mines may be must be camouflaged.
Like the rest of shipwrecks, sea stones, corals ,etc, etc.

not only mines, i heard that iran has these really old enormous frigates just sitting there near choke points in the persian gulf and as soon a war would start they'd sink them blocking off the persian gulf so no one can get out or in

but in the last sepah manuver
iran tesed a new versions of multiple rucket luncher fajr5 to fire 4 missle with
a warhead of sea mines
and show it in tv
we can destroy all enemies in the persion golf and strait of hormoz with our capability
i sure this

Iran doesn't need mines. Ships can be sunk from shore using a massive barrage of torpedoes. I would put mine in underwater and launch them through automation in the event of a see attack.
