What Will happen if Iran sunk nuclear powered carrier? A great amount of radiation will be realized in Persian See poisoning all see life as well as making costal life impossible. That would be perfect way to “resolve” “Islamic Question”. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Emirates, Iran, Iraq, they would all stay disconnected since no ship would be allowed to pass contaminated area for long, long time. Russia, China, India, in fact most of the World would stay without energy resources. Only technologically high developed nations would be able to bypass that lack of energy for longer period. Others would be set to feudal age. Poisoning Persian See with radiation is perfect way to kill any others Super Force ambitions. Muslims would no longer go to Hajj. Or they would must to pass radiated Saudi Arabia. Those who perform it would die of cancer and similar unknown diseases. In 20-50 years, since see water is circulating, ---------
I am very sure Russia, China and other countries see this development, and this is why Iran gets more weapons every day.

The Reactor is pretty well Armored, and if Iran sunk one, the fall out and radiation would be minimal. Further the sinking of one in the strait of Hormuz would shut the war down quickly as it must be removed and American forces would be without resupply.

Indeed. I would worry about war only and only if they do pull out their carriers. As long as there are carriers in the Persian Gulf there will be no war.

You need to do some research into radioactivity. If a nuclear aircraft carrier is sunk in the Persian Gulf, a lot will depend on where, how deep the water is, whether or not the carrier was sunk catastrophically (say, in just a few minutes, or over a long period of time), whether the reactor containment was breached, etc. I really don't think you're going to have an environmental catstrophe on your hands, especially with regard to the radioactive byproducts. Heck, they stick very highly radioactive material in cooling ponds at nuclear reactor sites now all over the world because the water acts as a shield to absorb the radiation.

A different question is what would happen geopolitically if Iran sank a US carrier, especially in a surprise attack that killed a lot of US servicemen. I would imagine that the retaliation strikes would attempt to take out most of the Iranian armed forces. But unlike some responses, I don't see any use of nuclear weapons happening.

Iran will pound the defeated U.S. military into a pulp if its attacked. Not only would the Green zone but all U.S. bases and garrisons will be reduced to a pile of burning rubble along with a massive invasion of Iraq by half a million Iranian troops.
