Yes and so were they americans, ever heard of the Iran-contra scandal the CIA was ecretly supplying the Iranians with spare parts for their aircraft! It wasn't so much that they were allies just that the US and Israel saw it as being in their interests to prolong the war so they gave both sides covert assistance in order to drag the war out and weaken both countries who they viewed as a threat.
