The Su-24 and Su-32/34 have a maritime strike capability that Algeria recieved with its upgraded Su-24's
That gives them a terrific all round long range land attack and maritime strike capability
Its smart to have this capability
Yes they dont have any enemies they need to use the aircraft against but who knows what the future holds
Algeria is modernising hardcore and i am so impressed with what they are doing
New Mig-29SMT's and Su-30MKA's
S-300 SAMS
Tunguska and TOR-M1 sams
Various naval assets
Algeria is definetely fast becoming the most powerful nation in North Africa
Not even Egypt has a significant long range strike capability
Israel and NATO are the only regional players with that capability
thanks that was a very logical analysis, i heard algeria has acquired loads of chinese hardware, and is looking to produce them locally.

i think that if we continue at this rate we can be africas strongest military power!!!

Aside from Radar upgrades, does the Su24 have improved performance over previous versions? Mig29 has increase in radar absorbing material, does the Su24 have any such features?

Does anyone know of a good site that compares RCS of different fighter planes?

Also what is the rationale of building Su24 which are difficult to maintain (especially the wings) when most countries start with a trainer first?

The USN dropped the F14 because it was costly to maintain (they had the option for the more advanced F21 but picked the F18 instead).
So why build the Su24 rather than a trainer like the Yak which can quickly be mastered and mass produced, enlarged, evolved into an intercept and then air supremacy role.

I guess I just don't understand the Su24! Any comments would be appreciated.

Great pictures. Algeria should start making planes with license agreement the way Turkey does. also its time to buy the JSF and forget about Russian planes for a while - diversify from just one supplier. Also, you can't trust the Russians, they sell information for $5 or 5 roubles, whatever.

Great to hear Mig 21s are still there. Algeria should mass produce them and turn them into UAVs some day. Can you imagine that? the speed and payload and unmanned, backed up by Mig29s, Su24/24/34s and future acquisitions (hopefully US) that would be sweet!!

The MiG-21 have been retired since 2003, before that they where upgraded and stored and can be used when ever needed (sort of like a second line of planes)

i think algeria should start ATLEAST assembling the MiG-29SMT, and then look for future production of this plane.

I would rather have algeria buy the Eurofighter then any america plane, and i think the reason is obvious why an arab muslim country should avoid buying anything from the US.

Glad u enjoyed the pictures

Remember the Prohet Muhammed cartoons? Europe published them, and the US refused to. Just goes to show when it comes to respecting religion the US is light years ahead. Now I agree their foreign policy is retarded, but the US is more conservative and has more in common with Muslim countries than the EU. They just have more right wing pro Israel hawks for obvious reasons, and that's whats messing their policies up.

Forget the Eurofighter, and especially forget about Rafale - that leaves China/US and indegenous. I would go for some US kit and do what the Malaysians did with their F-18s - redo the avionics, but keep the shell. The JSF has VTOL and low signature - at the moment everything in tthe Algerian Air Force lights up like a christmas tree. Algeria needs something 5th gen and stealthy - F-22 is impossible to get, leaves F35, Algeria can adapt an indegenous plane later on from F35 and Sukhois that suits its purposes better, but can't rely on Russian planes they're depasser...
